you are all over the place ...
Claim Russ was handcuffed , hell Russ Handcuffed the team by only using sidelines nothing in the middle....
you claim we cant retain anyone yet you claim they are not worthy of retaining .... Russ Diva and over paid in seattle , russ diva and over paid Denver , and say what did we want KP to sit and learn how to lose 5 games in a row THEN say we cant retain anyone even tho Russ waited forever for us to sign him back and we didnt even float an offer because we didnt want him .......
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar
I’m all over the place? You said Kenny could learn from Russ and now you are saying Russ handcuffed the team by only throwing sideline passes. See the irony? How many years have we complained about QB’s not using the middle of the field? This started with Canada in 2021. Don’t you get it? Its the teams scheme on offense, not the QB.
and two things can be true.
None of these QB’s showed they were franchise worthy BUT I think you have a much better chance with a younger QB developing vs bringing in QB’s past their prime and hoping they catch lightening in a bottle. I wouldn’t have been mad if we upped our offer to Fields due to his age.
but the handcuffing of QB’s when it comes to audibles isn’t a lie and we all watched Wilson throw for the second most yards of his career vs the Bengals in the first matchup and then turtle in the second matchup. Tomlin admitted shootouts make him nervous. What QB wants to play for coaching that doesn’t want to let it rip vs a bad passing defense?
Wilson was 4/8 for 45 yards in the first half in the second Bengals game. Burrow attempted 27 passes in the first half. HANDCUFFED!!!
For example, Fields sucked in Chicago, so maybe they shouldn't have bothered with him at all. But sometimes a guy gets a change of scenery and plays well, so they gave him a shot. It didn't work out, so they moved on. Are you expecting the Steelers to know with 100% accuracy how a guy will play before he gets here? Is it okay with you if they just take a shot with guys to see what will happen?
They "gave Fields a shot"? Winning four out of six games and for them and then he never sees the field again except for gadget plays, and gets a lowball contract offer for next season? That's "giving him a shot"???
You're right that "it didn't work out", but you seem to be a bit confused about who was responsible.
Our coaching on offense is a huge hurdle for QB’s to overcome so we aren’t getting the best evaluations of these players.
This doesn’t mean our QB’s weren’t average. My issue is all these moving parts and the same record as Kenny and the same struggles down the stretch to put up points and sustain drives. Didn’t even give Kenny a chance to play with a new OC. An OC who is also conservative and didn’t vibe with Wilson. Fields went 4-2 and never started another game. Truth be told, we struggled passing with Fields but at least he was mobile. What do we learn in Pittsburgh at QB?
Kenny "could've learned from Russ", like going an entire season without an opening drive Touchdown, losing five straight games, melting down in the pocket, and avoiding the middle of the field.
Against the Bengals in Pittsburgh, the Steelers only put up 90 yards of offense after THREE Quarters. Is that what Kenny could've "learned from"? And despite all of that, 2023 Kenny still won more games than 2024 Russ as a Starter. This is the "upgrade" we aimed for. There was nothing Russ did last season that we didn't already hate Kenny and Matt Canada for doing.
Did the same thing with KP. Kenny the "starter" was having a pretty good game driving for a score, get's injured and never see's the field again.
But you see, the big cry baby Kenny should have just washed Big Mikes balls and accepted being benched for getting injured, cause that is the norm for how the steelers do things now.
Certain people on here can say what they want about how terrible KP is because he wanted out, requesting a trade, but if that would have happened to them at their job I wouldn't hesitate to bet the house they would have done what KP did.
Tomlin’s not interested in giving young guys a shot. He has no patience for that. He wants to win a damn playoff game to quiet the critics. Now he’s stuck if Rodgers doesn't sign. In that case he’s probably thinking about getting on with his life's work.
Its foolish to move on from QB’s that will “never win a SB” after 6 freaking games. 90% of QB’s right now won’t win a SB next year. This doesn’t mean you move on from all of them. This isn’t Madden. You have to give QB’s time to develop and gel with the OL, WR’s and OC.
3 out of 59 total QBs won the SB last season. So, 95% didn't win last year.
I think the mistake that the Steelers made with Fields is not starting him again after Wilson cooled off. They probably saw everything they needed anyway in practice and games. It's football and not swapping pitchers in MLB.
All Defense!
Fields was never going to. I think they could tell that after six games played and everything they saw in practice.
They did bring back Mason to let him have his shot finally.![]()
I think stubborn is a better word..
and some fans are just like Tomlin, stubborn and unwilling to adapt to these younger players. He wants a vet so bad he is willing to damage younger QB’s with more upside.
Bringing in Trubisky? That was idiotic. That dude sucks and had like 13 snaps and we still have him the gig when we had Mason already.
Then we threw everyone out for Russ.
This isn’t about winning a SB because we all know we aren’t anywhere close. This is just about winning a PLAYOFF game. When Kenny went down.. we went back to Trubisky over Mason when it was clear to everyone Mason was better.
Tomlin is stubborn to a fault.
its extremely odd to say a team went 4-2 with Fields like its a dig at his abilities.
Fields was 22 of 34 for 312 yards.. 1 TD and 55 rushing yards and 2 TD’s vs Colts but the D wasn’t ready for Joe Flacco according to Tomlin
We also had the lead vs Dallas and the D gave up a game winning drive.
Acting like Fields going 4-2 was bad football is just odd.
By the way...
Average combined final records of teams the Steelers played in the first six games: 48-54 (.47)
Average combined final records of teams the Steelers played in the final five games: 62-23 (.72)
I've also been thinking that the defense is always fresh at the start of a season but fades as the season goes on because the team relies on them too much all season. I submit Fields had a stronger fresher defense to work with than Wilson. It is a team game after all.
So sure, Fields was...okay...the first six games. I don't envision him ever lighting up another team with his arm which is what's needed to win in the playoffs.
Okay, we're in the playoffs. We still have Fields as our starting QB. Anyone like his chances of winning a shootout with Hurts or Mahomes or Allen or Herbert? I don't.
You've nailed it for me.
I suspect the Steelers set a valuefor Fields based on the factors you laid out.
Then Fields shopped the market and found a team willing to top it.
While I disagree with the organization not trying to top it; I'm able to see where the team is coming from.
Again, its silly to say Fields wasn’t going to win a SB when we all know Wilson wasn’t going to win one either.
The point is until we stop playing musical chairs at QB we will never have enough consistency to build a roster that can win a playoff game and you have the nerve to focus on SB’s??? lmao

Every team is “fresh” to start the season and banged up by the time they make the playoffs. Its a piss poor excuse to let the defense off the hook for fading the last DECADE.
Justin Herbert was 14 for 32 and threw 4 INT’s in his first playoff game. Jaylen Hurts threw 18 TD’s last year.
I think Justin can hang with these QB’s because he makes plays with his legs. Those sacks Wilson took, half would be first downs if it was Fields.
If the SB or “winning shootouts” vs these other QB’s is the only criteria throw the season away because we aren’t bringing anyone in that can do these things on paper.
best thing you can do to stay in these games is have a mobile QB who can move the chains. Its what makes Lamar, Allen and a few other QB’s hard to beat. Even Mahomes is in this convo. He isn’t throwing all over the field lately. Its been mobility and screen passes.
