It's always a bonus when you can something for a player that was going to be cut.

A 6th is pretty good value.

I may be wrong, but the steelers and the Bucs have made several minor years in the last couple years I think...

Agreed. He wasn't gonna make the 53 anyways, but might eventually move inside to guard for somebody.

    100% correct

Hawkins cut = zero draft picks= 0% chance of hitting the lottery with a late-round draft pick

Hawkins traded = higher draft pick = .00001% chance of hitting the lottery with a late-round draft pick

People may scoff at my hyperbolic “.00001%”, but anything greater than nothing is a win.

we should be able to land a player like AB or Tom Brady with that 6th round draft choice...

Maybe the old Ed Bouchette would understand that if you would say that to him(just to look at his tweet in post 6 in this thread), even of this draft pick is only in 2021!

Bouchette is the kind of person who would complain about a getting a free dessert.

I think landing a HOF player with every other 6th round pick sounds about right.

The fact that Bouchette reports on an NFL team and doesn't seem to understand that a 6th round pick can become something in the draft, used to acquire a player off another team's roster, used in an offseason trade, or used to trade up in the draft is an embarrassment.

He is basically announcing to the world that he doesn't fully understand how the game is being played in today's NFL, and the value of these picks that are chess pieces used to make things happen.

He doesn't deserve to do the job he currently has, because he isn't really doing it now.

Heck, it's from the Bucs. If they end up with the same record they did last year, that draft pick will enable us to move up 5 or 6 spots in the third round or at least two spots in the second round (depending on where we end up).

This is good move. We trade a guy we were 100% going to cut and get value.

As for 6th round picks, the Steelers have hit on their sale. Mr. Helmet Brown, Vince Williams, and O Roye come to mind. So it's more like a 10%-15% of getting a good player. Or a 60% chance of getting a better punter.

A R6 pick would have allowed us to trade up for Josh Jones (instead of settling for JuJu).

Really though, joking aside, you are 100% correct: sometimes it is not about the player in R6, but the ability to leap-frog other teams/move up in the earlier rounds.

Yep. We’ve done much better than .00001%.

Like Ed Bouchette said in the tweet of the post 6 in this thread, the 6th round pick is in 2021!
