What bothers me is that it seems to be a conscious effort on his part to avoid saluting. But, perhaps I'm just jumping to conclusions in my interpretation of his intent in those photos.

I do know, however, that he did make a conscious decision to go to Chicago for rest and relaxation rather than placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as every Commander-In-Chief has done since the Tomb was constructed. That truly pisses me off because as the CiC he should show a little effing respect.

You gotta figure that someone in his entourage (like the White House Chief of Staff, etc) MUST have said, "Um, Mr. President, it's something of a Tradition for the POTUS to pay respect to Fallen Soldiers at the Tomb of the Unknown and at Arlington. You know, to acknowledge that your Office exists because of them! (d/ckhead)".
To which he certainly replied, "Fuck Them. I'm going to hang out in Chicago. Change you can count on!"

You're quacking up the wrong tree. I doubt any of you have more ideological disagreements with Obama than I do. He is an unapologetic corporatist, just as his predecessor was. Your objection to the one (or at least your bile towards him) and not the other is based purely on his party affiliation. I'm assuming you have no objection to his race, but it could be that as well.
