Packers’ Matthews upset over Cushing’s injury

Former USC linebackers Clay Matthews and Brian Cushing were supposed to be leading their respective NFL defenses when the Green Bay Packers visit the Houston Texans on Sunday night. That likely won't happen now, and Matthews is upset with the NFL.

Cushing left the Texans' Monday night win against the New York Jets in the second quarter with what is feared to be a serious knee injury suffered on a block from behind. Matthews took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with the NFL's lack of protection of defensive players.

"Where is the NFL's protection on blocks below the waist like that on Cushing. Double standard," Matthews tweeted, then adding, "If the NFL really wants to increase player safety, start protecting players on BOTH sides of the ball."

Just add a 12th man to the offense and get rid of the grounding penalty.

Still the issue of cut block = legal, chop block not legal.

But let's give Goodell time. He is still working on protecting the WRs and QBs. He hasn't yet decided whether to protect the defenders or just eliminate them altogether.

The Nfl gets called out either way, they police the game too much or they dont police the game enough.

Sorry, but Matthews has a point.

So, where's the fine on Slauson for taking his knee out? Where's the indignant media outrage over the fact that Cushing's career could be over if the injury is bad enough? The league has been shoving this phony and disingenuous "player safety" garbage down everyone's throat for the last 3+ years, so why doesn't it seem to apply to defensive players?

Are you kidding me? How the FUCK is that not an illegal play? Cushing wasn't even near the ballcarrier, and he gets chopped almost from behind? That is bullshit, and once again proves that this garbage about "player safety" is a one-way street. There is no justification for that whatsoever - you're talking about a guy's career possibly being put in jeopardy because of cheap ass chop blocks like that.

Only skill positions are important in Goodell Land. How else we going to achieve arena football scoring? We should get rid of the 4 interior linemen on both sides and just run 7-7 drills. Chubby linemen are so unworthy of magazine covers, so why have them anyway?
