Permission to start with a disclaimer? It goes like this: It’s only preseason, so nothing can be extracted from this game as relevant or meaningful in the big picture, unless you have 700 or 800 words to write and can’t think of anything nice to say about Eli Manning.
Truthfully, we couldn’t care less about the digits on the scoreboard, and neither should you. But it doesn’t work that way for all of us, of course: A third of the pigskin populi will exult in a meaningless 17-3 Jets triumph, and another third will spill bogus tears and phony lamentations about who lost.
Then there’s that final group (including myself), who are simply grateful that we managed to make it to the Snoopy Bowl without the use of an ark.
But most of all, we’ll remember the Giants quarterback’s latest bid to become the lead actor in a season’s worth of stress dreams.
