NFL decides not to suspend Bucs CB Talib, Titans WR Britt

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt and Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib have avoided NFL suspensions during the 2011 season following offseason arrests.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik said Saturday that Talib will not be suspended for any games during the season, according to the team's official Twitter account.

Likewise, league spokesman Greg Aiello said the Titans were informed by Commissioner Roger Goodell Friday that the league has decided not to impose discipline on Britt "at this time."

You have GOT to be kidding me????

You know what...I'm not even going to say anything else. I'm just going to let this stand on its own demerit. Un-freaking-believable.

In Talib's case at least, I think Goodell is letting the legal system run its course before making any decision.

    This is complete bullshit.

Chad Ochocinco riding a bull and stuff is one thing during a lockout. Getting arrested is grounds for suspension.

And Chidi, the NFL isn't legally obligated to let the legal system play out, no employer is. Both of these players should be suspended.

Either Goodell needs to go, or the conduct policy needs to go, they are both fucking jokes.

I can understand that, though Talib has already been suspended once before for violating the PCP. But what's his excuse for Britt? He's a multiple-time repeat offender, and yet he gets nothing.

Goodell's explanations have usually been to wait until the legal system is settled and then make a decision. They aren't obligated, but that appears to be the policy.

I'm not sure. I'd be interested in hearing it, I can tell you that.

Perhaps is has to do with the lockout. And Goodell not wanting to get into a potential dispute with D. Smith? I don't know.

While both of these idiots deserved to be suspended, I'm up in the air about this.

Should players that are locked out, denied medical insurance, etc, etc, still be suspended under the league player conduct policy for offenses committed while they were denied employment and benefits??

If it were one of our guys, I'd be pissed if they got suspended under those circumstances, even if they deserved it.

I think I have Goofdell figured out.

Get arrested and you're OK. Get accused without being arrested and you get suspended.

Since Goodell apparently now has the power to suspend players for what they did in college, I would think so.

He can to whatever he wants. Rules are gray enough for him. Same as the NHL and their riduculous suspensions.

And the league shouldn't suspend either. They wanted no part of the NFLPA during that time period...they don't have any authority over those players at that time.

Goodell seems to do whatever he wants and, nobody keeps him in check. So i guess during the lockout a player could have killed a few people without any punishment for the league? Nice. There are rules for the Steelers but, the rest of the league can do whatever it wants to.

Yeah, I think it would have been different if the league hadn't been locked out at the time.

If I'm not mistaken, I remember some people on here saying they would be upset if Goodell suspended players for stuff they did during the lock-out...so, why all the fuss, again?

This makes exactly as much sense as fining legal hits. Legal. Hits. That draw no flag.

The league is becoming Orwellian in it's "doublethink".

The point is his inconsistencies. Like FS76, he can apparently suspend players that weren't even in the NFL but now doesn't suspend 2 that were, but locked out. he suspends a player that was never charged with a crime, yet does nothing to some players that are. But some do, depending on what teams they play for or how high up they are on the roster.

These were still NFL players i don't care if they were locked out or not. We all knew that EVENTUALLY the NFL would be back so I don't think it's fair to not suspend these guys because they were lucky that at the time they made their dumbass mistakes there was a lock out.

Talib could have killed someone and he gets nothing. And why let the legal system play out? Goodell didn't do that for Ben, he was suspended on an acusation!

I remember Goodell saying at one point either just before the lockout started or just after it started that players were still to abide by the personal conduct policy.

But he has handed down punishments before the legal system has run it's course also. He's so fucking inconsistent.

He did. Obviously it didn't mean much if Britt, at the very least, wasn't suspended.

Talib walks; conduct policy further scrutinized

    By Jason Cole, Yahoo! Sports

The decision by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to not suspend Tampa Bay cornerback Aqib Talib for now set off immediate alarms among those familiar with Goodell’s position on the player conduct policy.

“I’m truly stunned by this,” one source said. “You look at the things other players have been suspended for and what I was told they were thinking about and this makes no sense. I can’t wait to have this one explained to me.”

Another source referred to the situation as “cloak-and-dagger” behind the scenes negotiating between the NFL and the NFL Players Association as both the league and the union try to sort out whether the league has the legal standing to suspend players who got into trouble while the league was locking out the players.

I am so sick of all the unnamed "sources" that speak out against Goodell. They waited about 2 seconds before blasting Ben's name all over the news before the details were ever even known. Harrison's name is dirt but other "unnamed players" agreed with him.

My problem with this is that neither is having their names dragged through the mud in any fashion close to what they did to Ben. Where is the kangaroo court of the media now???

Don't get me wrong I don't think any NFL rules can apply to a lockout but where are all the people up in arms about the dealings of noted offenders or is that only reserved for Ben and other Steelers???

BI-ASSED Media and a wishy washy, do as I please "Go To Hell" commisioner. Hell he didn't even give them a stern warning even though that would be a joke at least it would be something in the way of notoriety.
