BALTIMORE—Name the only NFL quarterback that has won at least one playoff game the past three seasons.

Joe Flacco.

Name the AFC North quarterback under the most scrutiny this season.

Joe Flacco.

If that seems like a contradiction, it’s not. The NFL is a what-have-you-done-for-me lately business. Or in Flacco’s case, what haven’t you done?

Flacco has not been to the Super Bowl, despite reaching the playoffs in each of his three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.

There’s also the disturbing difference between the unflappable Flacco during the regular season (60 touchdowns, 34 interceptions, 62 percent completions), and the frustrated Flacco in the postseason (four TDs, seven INTs, 53.2 percent).

That’s why this season is crucial for Flacco, a young quarterback still figuring out how to lead his franchise to the top.

Say this for Flacco: He’s not backing down from the challenge.

When LaMarr Woodley of the Pittsburgh Steelers said during the offseason that Flacco would never win a Super Bowl, Flacco responded on the first day of training camp.

“It doesn’t matter what other people say,” Flacco said at the time. “I think I’m pretty damn good.”
