Miller: It’s Only Preseason, But…(EAGLES)

NFL preseason football is often completely misleading. Championship teams have gone 0-4 in August; Basement dwellers have gone 4-0 in games that don’t count. So everything that happens in the preseason needs to be taken with a grain of salt. But, man, the Eagles were awful on Thursday night.

If the Steelers were supposed to be a measuring stick for the Eagles, the Eagles looked like Verne Troyer.

Maybe the Eagles should be working harder. Andy Reid’s Camp Lollipop was by far the softest of his tenure as the Eagles quarterback. In a year without any offseason practices and OTA’s, it was downright shocking that Reid would go so easy on the troops. Much of it was mandated by the new CBA, but you wonder if breaking camp early was such a great idea. Friday morning, it sure looks like something borne of overconfidence.

Michael Vick looked completely perplexed by the Steelers’ defense. As Mike Freeman of CBS Sports tweeted, “looks like the old Vick.” He threw three interceptions. One of them was a tip drill cheapie, but the other two were thrown right into double coverage that he clearly did not see. That’s a very bad sign. For the first half, Vick’s quarterback rating was 13.5.

What old Vick? He never could read a defense, and he always did rely almost solely on his feet and his arm-strength to compensate. He locks on receivers, doesn't check-down and has no idea what going through a progression is. Basically, he drops back, checks the primary, and if he's open (or close) he fires the ball in, and, if not, he takes off and runs. Has since his days at VT.

the Vick we saw last night is the same I have seen throughout his whole career. He had a nice comeback season last year, but showed his true self in the playoffs once again

too bad their backup is vince young. Mike Kafka looked good against backups though

I love that or defense was able to get interceptions last night, will be bad news for the rest of the league if they could play like that throughout the regular season. Thanks Mike Pick!

Not only that, their defense, which Eagles ownership poured a ton of money into looked awful. Did anyone else see the open running lanes. Don't forget the Eagles gave up a TD drive to Pittsburgh's backups

Yep. Last season was a fluke. Kinda like Kordell's Pro Bowl season in 2001. But even before he was incarcerated Vick was grossly overrated by the media.

Let's not get too over zealous. We looked pretty pathetic last week. Let's wait for the real games to start before we get too excited. But, winning sure is better than losing.

It's only preseason, but I still wasn't too pleased how the Steelers played against the Redskins. It's only preseason, but I'm still very pleased how the Steelers played against the Eagles.

Michael Vick has been Kordell Stewart v2.0 his entire career. His 2010 comeback year was much like his 2002 rookie season. Looks amazing, but as teams got tape on him as the seasons went on, teams gameplanned for him as the surprise factor wore off and his flaws were exposed. In 2010 he was a backup to freaking Kevin Kolb. He stormed on and surprised everyone. Now we're like going to see it happen all over again.

Vince "Dream Team" Young wasn't very good last night either. And this was against the Steelers' second teamers.

When you want to build a Championship Dream Team, you don't grab two known losers at QB and expect them to take you there. I don't believe in the Eagles, because Andy Reid is the coach, Mike Vick can't get it done in the playoffs, and the Eagles always find a way to lose.

Vick will never be considered a "great" because he is such an on and off player and has been consistent of that for his entire career. Yes he has spurts of greatness in him, but either when it's a big game like in the playoffs he always comes out on the short side.
