Example.
Player A screws up. The NFL (32 teams) say to him "Pay this fine or else you don't get drafted". The union can't force teams to drafter a player.
The real issue is timing when it comes to light. There has to be a statute of limitations (is that the name of it??). Anyway, I'd put in the contract a clause about disciplinary action of "said act comes to light". The player either signs the contract or they don't get paid, it's that simple.
Again, the NFL can take the player's choice, as well as the unions choice, right out of the equation.
