Brett Favre mentors Browns QB Colt McCoy

Browns QB McCoy sought Favre for West Coast knowledge

BEREA, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy spent a few days talking nothing but football with Brett Favre. The subject of Favre's future never came up.

McCoy said "we didn't even go there" when asked if he believed Favre, who has spent the past few seasons retiring and then coming back to the NFL, will make another celebrated return.

Wanting to learn all he could about Cleveland's new West Coast offense, McCoy sought out Favre, who spent most of his illustrious career running it. McCoy said Favre picked him up at the airport in Mississippi and that they spent several days together. McCoy said it was a thrill to be around and learn from one of his idols. He wore Favre's No. 4 in high school.

McCoy said the visit with Favre was invaluable.

If he taught him to throw key interceptions that cost his team games and how to be a drama queen, then yes, I'm sure his input was invaluable.

I feel so bad for Colt McCoy (going to the Browns). I really like that kid. I hope his "mentoring" with Brett does him some good. Judging by his sideline tantrum he does need to mature some more; mainly learn to have a short memory. Would have loved to have seen him go to a non-rival though.

That comment is along the lines of the "wanting Bruce Arians fired comments" ...lol...

I think it's a smart move by McCoy. The word out of Cleveland is that he is having a hell of a camp. I like the kid...I just find it funny that he doesn't get a lot of respect even in Cleveland...he played well in his first game against the Steelers...surprisingly...

Good for McCoy. I like his attitude.

He realizes he can improve by learning from the successes (and perhaps the shortcomings as well) of others.

Personally im afraid that if the Browns have any chance of reaching the promised land, Colt is going to be the one leading the way. And i sure as heck dont want a future HOF QB who holds almost every major lifetime record helping him get better

Re: Brett Favre mentors Browns QB Colt McCoy

The difference between Colt and say Brady Quinn is pretty immense. In terms of both talent, and the surrounding pieces of the organizations.

I mean, You've surrounded Colt with guys like Shurmer (Eagles QB coach/Ram o-coordinator ), Gil Haskell (Holmgren's old o-coordinator), Mark Whipple (Helped coach up a certain QB who's wearing no. 7 for your guys ) and Mike Holmgren, who has coached three Super Bowl teams, and has coached QB's like Montana, Young and Farve.

The organization seems to have a lot invested in him, and have kind of given him this year to go out and prove he could be a franchise guy for us.

Colt also seems to be a very accurate passer and can be slightly mobile. He seems to have the intelligence to run the West Coast Offense, and also seems to have that all important streak of leadership in him.

I'm not counting my chickens yet though, but he's been put in a very good position. The very fact that you guys now think very well of him versus say a Brady Quinn kind of says a lot to me.

But, again, We'll see in December how he looks. My main way of gauging him will be to see how he looks against the Steelers as they again are still the kings of the division and of the AFC to me. If he's for real, he'll be able to show up in that game, and then some.

Right now, the only thing the guy has going for him is potential. We'll see if it'll be fully realized.

I know its really fun to make fun of Favre, but I'm sure this helped McCoy a lot.

Now I won't be surprised if I see him chucking the ball downfield into triple coverage against the Steelers next year

Good for Colt. Would be nice to have some real competition in the AFC North.
