Anyone else think the new Kickoff rule is stupid?

I've been flipping threw the preseason games thus far. I haven't seen one kickoff not be less than 5 yards deep in the Endzone, forcing the Returner to take a Touchback.

Talk about boring....this is just "kick. catch. knee."

I'm not a big fan of the new rule, but I guess it isn't a huge deal. Just something that i'll get used to and probably not think much more of it.

To be honest...even though this does make for a boring, pansy approach to the game, it probably works out very well for our team as a whole. It certainly reduces the number of times our defense has to defend a short field. As strong as our defense usually is, the idea of rarely having to worry about a team starting at their 35 or 40 yard line against is actually quite comforting...lol

They just moved it back a few years ago to ensure more returns. Now, with Goodell's pussification of the NFL, safety first!

My 2 cents is that if 75% of the kicks are unreturnable, the 25% will tend to go for much bigger gains, as teams will not be as prepared for a return, and the players may also be a little more lackadaisical. Since we have never had strong-legged kickers, though, i also agree with the above sentiments that it will most likely help us. Field position differential is a HUGE indicator of a teams success and win rate.

Teams with very good kickers(Oakland, BALTIMORE) are gonna start kicking it really high in the air and making it land somewhere between the goal line and the 5 yard line so you have to return it. Which likely means you can't even get out to the 15. So the advantage will probably works both ways.
