(Former) Steelers coach sells Mercedes to team cafeteria worker for $20

A cook at the Pittsburgh Steelers team complex is driving around in a red Mercedes convertible thanks to an unexpected and generous deal from the franchise's former secondary coach.

On his final day in Pittsburgh before taking over as defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals, Ray Horton gave his 1999 Mercedes SL500 to cafeteria worker Maurice Matthews.

Truthfully, the Steelers have perhaps the best assistant coaches in the league. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. Think about it. Last year, we had LeBeau (HOF'er), Horton as the DBs coach, Keith Butler (likely LeBeau replacement) at LBs, and John Mitchell as our DL coach (father-figure and a great story, knocking down racial boundaries at Alabama).

    Thanks for posting the article.

The cards don't deserve such a good person

We need more people like Horton in this world

Thank you coach, for everything you've done here and for being a real man

It's a '99, he probably didn't want to deal with transporting it out there. With a "promotion", money is not an object regarding an automobile - I don't see the generosity. It was a nice gesture for sure, but to praise him for it is t a bit of a stretch.

I guess coach always got a few "extras" in the food line.
