Derek Jeter gets 3,000th hit

There are only 28 people in the club, so it's not like this is a common occurrence. To keep things in perspective, the FIRST player to reach 3,000 hits did so in 1897. That's 114 years ago. I think most people are a bit surprised about Jeter being the first Yank...and one of the reasons for that is the fact that they have had so many formidable hitters on their roster over the years, and so may line-ups deep with solid hitters. Which is really just the point I am making...it's easier to get 3,000 hits with a help.

Even if he'd have played for a team like the Pirates, had little help, and ended up with 2750 hits, he'd still be considered one of the best ever.
