I never disagreed with your premise about the insurance companies' profit for their personal gain. I've had many fights over the years with both private insurance companies and with Medicare (yes, the wonderful and oh so compassionate government program) when my mother was alive. I do not like the fact that they charge ridiculous rates or deny plans outright for people with pre-existing conditions and illnesses. I just don't agree that a single-payer system is the solution. For me, it's about choice. Single-payer offers none. Obamacare offers little, not to mention the whole government mandate thingy where you are punished if you choose NOT to carry insurance.
Dude, I've switched my insurance carrier 3 times in the 10 years on the job. Each one of them allowed me to choose my own doctor and did not require referrals for specialists. Like BNGHevn, I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I don't have an HMO where patients are told what doctors they can choose and have to get referrals for specialists. So please do not pretend to know what I or anyone else has when you don't have a freaking clue. I read my benefits, and I know what I have.
