Is Emmanuel Sanders former teammate, Aldrick Robinson a possibility for us in round 7 ?
The kid has great speed from the slot. And he's alot tougher then his frame might indicate.

    Re: Thoughts on players thread:

Sounded like his total reasoning that Dowling is a bad fit for the Steelers was the injuries in his senor year. Where as this must be seriously taken into consideration, I think there is a danger of over playing this point as well.

The injury's occurred in his senor year and did not happen year after year as it did with James Brewer. I think one thing that could have contributed to this is Dowling trying to get back on the field sooner than he should have. After all this was his last year to impressed the NFL and he had to feel pressured to play as soon, maybe sooner, than possible.

During the combine Dowling ripped of a very good 40 time, but this time was smart enough to stop there when he felt that something was not quite right instead of re-injuring himself. After all he did still have this Pro Day.

I'm not sure what the writer meant by " he couldn't get a 40 time down at his Pro Day". During his Pro Day he show a lot of his old self. He mantained his combine 40 time with a 4.36 and a 4.43, and looked good in the CB drills. His cone times were 6.85, and ran the shuttle in 4.26, and claimed that he still was not 100%

I still think a lot of Dowlings draft status will depend on what the teams doctor says. If they say he is sound, I think he will be a later 1st, early 2nd round pick. If they still have questions about him he will drop some, but not too far.

I guess in Dowlings case beauty is in deed in the eye of the beholder.

From what I have heard the Steelers noticed Aldrick last year when they were scouting Sanders. They may know him better than any other team. The kids a gamer bud.

With all my notes involving players that could be potentially good fits for the Steelers, which there seem to be a high number of this year, I figured I would mix it up and note a couple players who may not be a good fit for Pittsburgh. One of these is Ras-I Dowling.
A cornerback out of Virginia, Dowling does have a lot of things that make him look like a smart investment on the surface. He's aggressive, and he can be a ballhawk as well, adding a few extra picks to the cornerback group.
However, despite all this, Dowling is injury-riddled. Yes, the injuries are from his senior year, and when watching tape of his junior year you can see how good he can be. However, he couldn't get a 40 time down at his Pro Day even after spending most of the season recovering from his injuries.
If he has these concerns already, then how is he going to fare in the AFC North, where there are receivers and tough tight ends who will punish a cornerback who isn't at their top level?
Perhaps most importantly, the Steelers have had injury problems already this past year, particularly with Troy Polamalu. They can't afford to bring in someone who may only play 8-10 games in a season or miss the playoffs.
I could be making too much of Dowling's injury situation, but I do believe Pittsburgh would be making a mistake selecting him.

Just thought I would share. He does have some good points though.

In regards to the writers opinion.....He never questions Dowlings ability or his fit into our defense...and instead focuses on his senior injuries.

He is also misleading in his assesment that Dowling can't run the 40. He didnt run at his pro day but had ran a 4.40 at the combine...on April 4th he ran in front of scouts and posted times between 4.37-4.42.

Previous to his senior year, Dowling had played in 35 of a possible 37 games for the Cavaliers. ..........The 6-1 (3/8"), 198 pound corner did work out on Monday, however, posting times ranging from 4.37-4.42, according to an NFL scout on the scene. Dowling also registered a 38" vertical jump and a 10'8" broad jumphttp://<br /> http://www.cbssports....layers/1272251

I like Robinson alot...but think he will be gone by the the time we pick in the 7th round. One WR that we have thrown around among ourselve is small school sleeper Andre Holmes of Hillsdale. He is 6-4 210 lbs, and ran a 4.45 forty at his workout. He had 104 catches, 1,368 yards and 11 touchdowns last year in D-2.

And it does seem that we have been paying more attention to the bigger receivers than the faster receivers.

Wow! As it goes to Kenrick Ellis, I knew about his team rules violations back in 2008 at South Carolina, But after reading this scouting report, I am even surprised that the Steelers even brought him in for a visit. And I may have to remove him as a possible pick for us now.

    Kenrick Ellis Scouting Report
    Kenrick Ellis
    Kenrick Ellis - Hampton (HT: 6-4⅞ - WT: 346)
    Combine 40: 5.28 - Position Rank: 8 of 55

Positives: Good size... Nice burst off the ball... Good length and long arms... Gets in the backfield... Very good strength... Good power... Can penetrate... Pushes the pocket... Solid bull rusher... Can get off blocks and make plays reasonably well... Good rip move... Bats down a lot of passes... Good closing speed... Plays the run well... Good anchor... Space eater... Occupies and splits double teams... Solid lateral mobility... Can scrape down the line of scrimmage to make plays... Takes good angles... Does a nice job chasing the action... Keeps his head up... Gives a good on-field effort... Good motor... Mean streak... Looked much more fit in 2010... Carries his weight well... Dominated at the FCS level... Good upside... 3-4 NT candidate.

Negatives: Plays too upright and loses leverage at times... Inconsistent... Can sometimes be blocked by single blocker... Questionable workout habits and attitude... Conditioning issues... Loses stamina as the game moves on... Will turn 24 during his rookie season... Dismissed from South Carolina for multiple school rules violations, including academic issues and marijuana use... Arrested for assault and suspended for 2010 season opener... He could be taken off some boards due to character concerns!

I found this story a few minutes ago. I always find these articles kinda fun approaching the draft. This was a story from NFLDraftscout.com...a source alot of you have great respect for. Well this is their Top-32 players for the 2011 NFL Draft. But it was written last May of 2010. As stated I always find it interesting to see what players who were considered top, 1st round talent about 10 months earlier, who may not even be top-100 now. Enjoy.

NFL | Rahim Moore to attend draft
    Tue, 19 Apr 2011 06:20:49 -0700

UCLA FS Rahim Moore will be attending the NFL Draft in New York City, reports Bo Marchionte, of NFL Draft Bible.

Hey LLT, Usually players who attend the draft are players usually slated for round 1. Could it be that Moore has a " Wink-wink " from a team to select the UCLA Safety in round 1 ? Or am I just putting too much into this ? Cause Moore by all accounts is considered a mid-to late 2nd rounder at best. Of course it wouldn't be out of line to think he could be drafted in round 1 LLT. I mean it seems that in EVERY NFL Draft there is always someone who all the experts had tabbed as a 2nd or later round talent who gets a surprise call in round 1. Take for example last year, when the Jags at pick 10 selected the Cal DE Tyson Alualu in round 1. And I remember I DIDN'T have this guy in round one, or did anyone else from what I could find. So LLT, is it possible Rahim Moore has gotten a guarantee of a 1st round selection from a team ? Or am I just blowing wind ?

    Thanks.

I'm cool with a late round pick but he's a much bigger work in progress than Sanders was. Sanders was a more well-rounded receiver in terms of the route tree and even he didn't run all of those routes.

When I watched Robinson in the bowl game, his job was to take the top off the defense. Pretty much ran streaks and posts. Playing the "X" receiver means he doesn't run as much of a variety of routes.

    Re: Thoughts on players thread:

This is interesting. If true, I would have to question us selecting Phil Taylor at 31 if he makes it past KC and the Jets.

    Quote:
Phil Taylor's name has generated a lot of buzz this pre-draft season, with some speculating that he could be a first-round pick. The Baylor product is suited to playing nose tackle in a 3-4 alignment, and this is a unique and valued capability given the prevalence of the formation around the league.

But according to Rob Rang of CBSSports.com, there is a serious medical issue that is causing some teams to re-consider their interest in Taylor; namely, that he has bones growing together in his feet, a condition that cannot be corrected with surgery. As it turns out, Taylor's momentous size is both a blessing -- he needs to be that big to play NT -- and a curse, because it only makes the condition more difficult.

"If he was a 190-pound player, it might be different. Or, if he was an older player and you were only signing him for a few years, it might be different," a source told Rang. "But, it is pretty hard to invest a first round pick in a player who you know coming in is being red-flagged by the doctors. This isn't just our team, by the way. Every team gets the MRIs. Every other team is seeing this too."

In light of the misinformation that is rampant at this point in the pre-draft season, Rang checked in with other sources on Taylor, and all echoed the concern. Now we wait until draft weekend to see if they were all just bluffing.
