Exclamation League, players' union agree to 24-hour extension in labor talks

The NFL and NFL Players Association agreed Thursday to a 24-hour extension of the negotiating window for a new collective bargaining agreement, sources told NFL Network's Kara Henderson.

Momentum to approve the idea of "stopping the clock" built throughout Thursday as the sides met for over eight hours in front of federal mediator George Cohen.

The original expiration date for the current CBA had been 11:59 p.m. ET Thursday. Now the union's deadline to possibly decertify is 4 p.m. ET Friday, according to NFL Network's Albert Breer.

The 24-hour extension could very well lead to a longer extension, according to a league source..............

Thats good, I think? Unless they really reach an agreement within 24 hours then its fine but from what theyre saying is that they are miles apart in reaching an agreement.

Ugh, not really, considering the Steelers declined to hang the transition tag on Ike. I think they were gambling on a lockout postponing or even canceling free agency. He could be free to sign with someone else starting on the 5th of March, I believe.

My understanding of the situation meant that he can't sign anywhere until the CBA is resolved.

Ah, OK. I was under the impression that as long as they keep extending the current CBA, then it's business as usual. I hope not.

I think the only way players can sign with other teams is if they're released like Bob Sanders. But players don't become free agents until the start of the new year, right? And the year doesn't start until a new CBA is agreed upon.

Really? I mean, they've had several years to get their shit together, and they need a 24-hour extension NOW?

Seriously, makes me think this all could have been avoided by ... you know ... not leaving things until the last minute. Instead of spending most of the year trying to be macho for their idiot pissing contest.
