OK... Do you want the barrage of choice quotes from the Old and New testament now, or later? Has any Muslim murdered you for turning your back on Islam? Even just once? Maybe just made an attempt on your life? How about said nasty things about you?
None of these things have happened to me, nor have I seen them happen. Likewise I have never seen any Christian or Jewish fathers stone their own daughters for infidelity in front of their own house, as is demanded in the Old Testament. Imagine that!
Fear mongering... that's all this entire discussion is.

Tell that to THIS guy:
Well, at least they don't plan on waterboarding him ... that would just be wrong.A Saudi man convicted of paralysing a fellow countryman in a cleaver attack is being threatened with having his spinal cord cut in a tit-for-tat punishment.
The ultra-conservative desert Kingdom enforces Islamic law and on rare occasions metes out punishments based on the ancient code of an ‘eye-for-an-eye’.
The case judge in the northwestern province of Tabuk has sent letters to several hospitals seeking their advice on whether it is medically possible to render the attacker’s spinal cord non-functional, local newspapers said.

Well, in terms of building something on private property in Manhattan, the only REAL way the people can apply so much pressure to stop it is by illegal means. I'm not sure if that's what you meant or not, but that's all they can do. Sure, some workers will say they don't want to build it, but eventually someone who needs the money will come along and pick up that slack. Then what? Other than the government stepping in, what can legally be done?
I stand by my previous statement that I don't think the American people themselves should have so much power that they can stop religious buildings from being built for no other reason than it offends them. Lower Manhattan might be the extreme case, but imagine if the people in Murfreesboro, Tenn. (where the Governor there has been quoted as saying he isn't sure if Muslims are covered under the 1st amendment), Temecula, Calif., Sheboygan, Wis., to name a few, got their way and were able to stop Mosques from being built for no other reason than it offends them. This is happening right now, and if there is some loop-hole created by the government or citizens that allows blocking Mosques or any other religious place of worship from being built...it's going to be a shitstorm.
There are actual debates going on right now as to whether or not Muslims should share the same religious freedoms enjoyed by other Americans. If the majority of Americans had their way, it seems, they wouldn't.

This website is just as damning and slanted as this one, and should never be used as a means of debate.

Kill People Who Don't Listen to Priests
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
Kill Homosexuals
"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)
Death for Hitting Dad
Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death. (Exodus 21:15 NAB)
Death for Cursing Parents
1) If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness. (Proverbs 20:20 NAB)
2) All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense. (Leviticus 20:9 NLT)
Kill the Entire Town if One Person Worships Another God
Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)
Kill Followers of Other Religions.
1) If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)
2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)
You Have to Kill
Cursed be he who does the Lords work remissly, cursed he who holds back his sword from blood. (Jeremiah 48:10 NAB)
Kill Your Neighbors
(Moses) stood at the entrance to the camp and shouted, "All of you who are on the LORD's side, come over here and join me." And all the Levites came. He told them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Strap on your swords! Go back and forth from one end of the camp to the other, killing even your brothers, friends, and neighbors." The Levites obeyed Moses, and about three thousand people died that day. Then Moses told the Levites, "Today you have been ordained for the service of the LORD, for you obeyed him even though it meant killing your own sons and brothers. Because of this, he will now give you a great blessing." (Exodus 32:26-29 NLT)
So I have to ask, just because these wacky statements are in the Bible, does that mean every Christian today is following them and should we start banning churches because of it?

No, I'm certainly not talking about anything illegal. By pressure, I mean protests, commentary, and what we see with contractors refusing to build it. The hope is that the imam finally realizes that it's a bad idea and decides to build it somewhere else.
I agree with you here. Money will probably win out for some company.
I understand your concern here and don't entirely disagree with you. Unfortunately, we've been seeing this very thing for years with Christianity. Because some people are offended by Christianity, my kids no longer have Christmas vacation or Christmas plays. Now they have winter vacation and winter celebrations. People are trying to change the Pledge of Allegiance because the word "God" offends them, even though God is a generic term that can be applied to any higher being, or none at all if you're an atheist.
For years, people have been telling Christians where they can and can't pray ... where and how they should worship. And they've bastardized the Constitution to achieve their goals. And for the record, I'm not a Christian. I just see what's going on around me.
Those of us who oppose the mosque are being treated as bigots, racists, or whatever. But I believe in being fair. If it's fair for people who are offended to have the right to stop Christians from worshiping wherever and however they like, then it's fair for people who are offended to have the right to stop Muslims from worshiping wherever and however they like.
But unlike with Islam, the government HAS stepped in with regard to Christianity ... even though the Constitution forbids it.

islam places bounties on Christian's heads for evangelizing muslims. The secular West places much smaller bounties on the heads of terrorist leaders that have murdered large numbers of innocents.

A controversial Christian cleric with a $60-million bounty on his head is in Vancouver.
Sources have told The Province that Father Zakaria Botros, a retired Coptic priest from Egypt, arrived at Vancouver International Airport Wednesday afternoon to little public fanfare — but an RCMP presence.
Botros, who lives in exile in the U.S., is little known in the western world.
But he is the target of a fatwa and has been named Islam’s “Public Enemy No. 1” by an Arabic newspaper for his fiery critiques of Islam, the Koran and the prophet Muhammed in a television show broadcast weekly on the Arabic-Christian channel al-Hayat, or “The Life.”
Up to 60 million viewers in the Arab world — as well as in Europe, Australia and North America — tune in to listen to the fiery cleric preach the gospel, according to World Magazine, which awarded Botros with the Daniel of the Year award in 2008.
His sermons are reportedly causing mass conversions of Muslims to the Christian faith.
Botros is in town for “The Unveiling,” a three-day gathering of spiritual leaders, including Jewish and Arab leaders, to discuss God’s divine purpose in the Middle East.
The seminar, which runs from Aug. 12 to 14, is held at Trinity Western University in Langley and organized by a group called Watchmen for the Nations.
In a video segment of his show, a bespectacled Boutrous, clad in a black cassock, said that he was exiled from his home country of Egypt for sharing the gospel.
“For this. I have been named Islam’s public enemy No. 1. For this, there is now a price on my head,” he told his audience.
“But I love Jesus more than my life and because Jesus loves Muslims, because he came and laid down his life for them. I love them too, and I am willing to lay my life down, if this is the way to reach them for my beloved Jesus.”
Despite his confrontational style, Botros told World Magazine in 2008 that “I am not against Muslims, although I am against Islam as a false religion. I don’t want to disgrace Muslims, but to expose Islam.”
Botros’ statements and his appeal among some Muslim followers have ignited the anger of jihadists.
Al Qaeda has labelled him an infidel and posted his photo with a $60-million price on his head. In comparison, the reward placed on Osama bin Laden’s head by the U.S. government is $25 million.
Trinity Western University Prof. Paul Rowe said there are plenty of other Christian evangelists who challenge Islam, but Botros is a unique figure because he is fluent in Arabic and is very much rooted in the Egyptian/Middle Eastern milieu.
“He is extremely popular in the Middle East because he takes a no-holds barred approach to challenging Islam,” said Rowe. “He’ll challenge Muslims on their own text. He knows the Koran and the Hadith [narratives on Muhammad’s sayings and actions] really well and he is able to deal with Islam on its own merits.”
Botros’ visit is not affiliated with Metro Vancouver’s two Coptic churches, Saint Mary Coptic Orthodox Church and St. George Coptic Orthodox Egyptian Church.

Critical distinction, the NAACP is in America, the Muslims governments Zu refers to are, by definition, not. I just don't understand the mindset that every nation has to do it our way or it's wrong. So what if they are tolerant of Muslim extremists? Should they be bombing us because we are tolerant of Christian extremists? Hmmmmmmmmmm......

I don't necessarily agree with changing the names of vacations and crazy stuff like that, but in terms of the Pledge...you have to keep in mind, the word "God" wasn't even introduced into the Pledge until 1950 something (1952 I think?).
I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone protesting a Church being built. I know some have complained about how it will affect traffic and parking (mostly in terms of "Mega-Churches"), but I've never seen a Church denied a place of worship. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just can't find anything on it.For years, people have been telling Christians where they can and can't pray ... where and how they should worship. And they've bastardized the Constitution to achieve their goals. And for the record, I'm not a Christian. I just see what's going on around me.
I don't think either are fair and they both need to be stopped.
This goes beyond not being able to pray in school or put the 10 commandments on court steps or anything like that. I've never seen anyone say that a Christian can't build their own place of worship and practice their religion. But unlike with Islam, the government HAS stepped in with regard to Christianity ... even though the Constitution forbids it.
To get back to the Lt. Governor of Tennessee's comments (which I have no doubt are growing sentiments among many Americans), this is what he said.
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2...slim-video.phpTennessee Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, currently running third in the state's Republican gubernatorial primary race, says he's not sure if Constitutional guarantees of freedom of religion apply to the followers of the world's second-largest faith, Islam.
At a recent event in Hamilton County, Ramsey was asked by a man in the audience about the "threat that's invading our country from the Muslims." Ramsey proclaimed his support for the Constitution and the whole "Congress shall make no law" thing when it comes to religion. But he also said that Islam, arguably, is less a faith than it is a "cult."
"Now, you could even argue whether being a Muslim is actually a religion, or is it a nationality, way of life, cult whatever you want to call it," Ramsey said. "Now certainly we do protect our religions, but at the same time this is something we are going to have to face."

See, here's why I don't think THIS ISSUE, even if the Victory Mosque is stopped, will lead to less freedom of religion or less rights regarding private property.
We've had Mosques in America for how long now ? They are decidedly free to build. They've not been hindered. The Mosques in Memphis don't suffer vandalism or "we don't want that shit here". In a residential neighborhood just around the corner from me, a house was turned into a Buddhist temple and a HUUUUGE statue of Buddha sits out front. Again, no vandalism, no "we don't want that shit here". Now, I'd rather not look at Buddhas fat ass every time I drive by but they have the right, no ? We all realize that.
What's going on with the Ground Zero Mosque is NOT about making Muslims feel unwelcome in America or stopping them from 'worshiping' or having a Mosque. The reason this particular Mosque is being objected to is simply because a majority of Americans KNOW it's a desecration to the memory of those who died and their families. They KNOW it's a 'victory Mosque". Period. It's not gonna turn into a "no mosques nowhere in America" kind of movement. I mean, how long has it been since the attack on NYC ? 9 years ? If this was about ANYTHING other than "NO VICTORY MOSQUE AT GROUND ZERO", this would have started 9 freakin years ago. Savvy ?
WAKE UP PEOPLE and stop with the "it'll lead to no religious freedom and no right to private property" rhetoric. It's bull.
Stay classy, leftnutz

You should speak with your states Lt. Governor about it then. He's not even sure that Muslims should be protected under the 1st amendment.
And are you really turning a blind eye to all the protests going on across the nation against Mosques and Islamic centers being built? They're not even using traffic congestion or parking as an excuse anymore...they're flat out saying they don't want them in their neighborhoods and they're looking for their local governments to do something about it. What do you think that will eventually lead to?
I'm fully awake on the situation. I don't want the government or the people deciding what religion is ok and which one is not, and I don't want them deciding whether or not a person who owns private land can build a place of worship there. Period. This goes well beyond the "Ground Zero Mosque" debate, this is quickly turning into a national issue.

Really? Everyone is just ok with it and nobody has been vandalizing Mosques and attacking Muslims or protesting their rights to build a place of worship on non "sacred" grounds? Think again.
Coast-to-Coast Anti-Islam Movement Results in Protests, Attacks Against Mosques
http://www.realcourage.org/2010/07/coast-to-coast/In Tennessee, 600 have turned out in opposition to a mosques’ expansion, and Tennesseans have started marching in the street against a Muslim mosque in Murfreesboro. More opposition to mosques is growing in Chicago, Antioch, Tennessee, and other parts of America.
In some cases, some anti-Islam activists seek to do more than protest. In May 2010, a Jacksonville, Florida mosque was the target of a pipe-bomb and gasoline attack. In Tennessee, mosques and mosque signs are being repeatedly vandalized, and others have been convicted of arson attacks against mosques. In Michigan, a mosque has been repeatedly vandalized. In Washington state, a mosque van was smeared with feces. Not long after protests against a Wisconsin mosque, it too was vandalized with bricks.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/08/09...e-ground-zero/The president of an Islamic Center in Texas says backlash against the proposed mosque at Ground Zero has made its way over to the Lone Star State and is manifesting itself in acts of hatred against his congregation.
Jamal Qaddura, president of the Dar El-Eman Islamic Center in Arlington, says it started with a disturbing act of vandalism.
“On a Friday, early morning, somebody came and sprayed extremely obscene graffiti in the parking lot. It’s a huge graffiti drawing of Uncle Sam having sex with God, with Allah,” Qaddura told FoxNews.com.
That same weekend, Qaddura said, somebody tried to burn down the mosque by cutting old gas lines and, when they were unsuccessful, went after the playground instead.
“They cut them trying to ignite a fire, and nothing happened because we don’t have gas in the building. We have cut off the gas, so instead they set fire to the playground, which is surrounded by trees. And it’s a miracle that only the playground burned and not the trees, otherwise it would have been a huge disaster -- not just for the mosque, but for the surrounding area, all the neighborhoods and apartment complexes surrounding this mosque,” Qaddura said.
http://ca.cair.com/losangeles/news/c...que_vandalizedRahmat P. Phyakul, board chairman and one of the founders of Al-Fatiha Masjid, reported to CAIR-LA that vandals shattered windows and glass doors of the mosque’s office and prayer hall on Monday, December 7. A plaque with Quranic verses was tossed on the floor, the sound system was destroyed and donation boxes were broken into.
The mosque has suffered prior incidents of vandalism. In the past, a passerby shouted anti-Muslim slurs at worshipers. The slurs reportedly included: “You, terrorist, Osama Bin Laden, F… your God, F…. you Allah.” Prayer rugs in the mosque were also covered with urine.
The December 7 incident appeared to have taken place between 4 and 7 p.m. and was reported by congregants arriving for evening prayer. Mosque officials immediately contacted the Azusa Police Department to report the break-in, vandalism and robbery.
“We urge law enforcement authorities to utilize all their resources to immediately and fully investigate the vandalism at Masjid Al-Fatiha as a possible hate crime, especially because of the nature of the vandalism,” said Affad Shaikh, civil rights manager for CAIR-LA.
Phyakul added: “For those who have committed hate crimes against people of any faith, especially Muslims, they should know that they cannot silence us, shut us down or cause us to go away. This is our country, and we are here to stay and we are willing to stand for the truth and peace under any circumstances.”
Earlier this month, vandals broke into the back door of a Sacramento mosque and damaged religious wall hangings and a book shelf that held Qurans, as well as other property in the facility, according to a police report. The vandals also stole items from the mosque.
It's happening...all over. I don't feel I'm the one who needs to "wake up".

So? People are sick and damn tired of the double standard for islam. Tens of thousands of terrorist attacks all over the world and somebody messes up a mosque. Its just shocking.
CAIR doesn't just sponsor terror, CAIR is the terrorist "happy face" to the US. - http://www.amazon.com/Muslim-Mafia-U.../dp/1935071106
islam is satanic.

:rolleyes2: Until you can find me a large number of American Muslims attacking non-Muslim Americans and desecrating their Churches...then maybe you'll have an argument. Using what Radical extremists are doing in other countries as an excuse for people to vandalize Mosques in America just isn't good enough.

Here's another interesting site...http://www.religioustolerance.org/reac_ter1.htm
Again, keep in mind during this debate, that we are talking about America. We are not discussing the policies in Jordan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia or Timbuktu.
People talk about Islam being satanic and being a religion that "brainwashes" its followers. I say, many Americans are no better in that respect and seem to be easily brainwashed by the media and the glowing thing sitting in the living room. Many people believe in the concept of collective responsibility: that all persons of a particular group -- whether they be of a particular gender, age, nationality, religion, sexual orientation etc. -- are responsible for any evil deed perpetrated by one individual in the group. Thus when incorrect rumors circulated that Muslims had bombed the Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, OK, some people searched for Muslims that they could assault, or for mosques that they could attack. Any Muslim or any mosque was acceptable to satisfy their rage.
Shortly after the bombing, TV and radio newscasters speculated that the terrorist act had the markings of a Middle Eastern perpetrator: Washington-based journalist Steven Emerson allegedly said on a national news program that the bombing "...was done with the intent of inflicting as many casualties as possible. That is a Middle Eastern trait."
One day after the bombing, Bob Grant of the Bob Grant Show responded to a caller who suggested that there was no evidence that the terrorists were Muslim. Grant allegedly commented "...in the Oklahoma case...the indications are that those people who did it were some Muslim terrorists. But a skunk like you. ...What I'd like to do is put you up against the wall with the rest of them, and mow you down along with them. Execute you with them. Because you obviously have a great hatred for America, otherwise you wouldn't talk the way you talk, you imbecile."
In their coverage of the bombing, the New York Times commented: "Some Middle Eastern groups have held meetings there (Oklahoma), and the city is home to at least three mosques." Mere presence of a conference or mosque in the city was deemed to be suggestive of an involvement in a mass murder.
Even after McVeigh was arrested and the government identified two white males as perpetrators, CNN correspondent Wolf Blitzer insisted that "there is still a possibility that there could have been some sort of connection to Middle East terrorism. One law enforcement source tells me that there's a possibility that they (the Caucasian suspects) may have been contracted out as freelancers to go out and rent this truck that was used in the bombing."
A lot of people seemed to agree with this media speculation. Within two days after the Oklahoma City bombing, there were hundreds of recorded instances of harassment and hate crimes against Muslims, Arabs, Iraqis, people who appeared to be Muslims, and Muslim organizations and buildings. Two days after the explosion, Timothy McVeigh was arrested. But the anti-Muslim, anti-Arab, and anti- Iraqi attacks continued for weeks. 2 One Muslim woman miscarried after an attack. Local Muslims later asked to participate in a mass memorial service led by the Governor. They were refused. However, Muslim delegations from other areas of the country were allowed to attend. The service was entirely Judeo-Christian in format.
What involvement did Muslims and their organizations have in the Oklahoma City bombing? Lots: "...within hours of the explosion, dozens of Muslim organizations around the country issued statements condemning the bombing in the strongest terms possible." 2
The Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, a nation-wide Muslim group, held a blood drive, and donated $7,500 to disaster relief organizations.
Fifty Holy Land Foundation volunteers flew to Oklahoma City to assist local charities.
Muslims met with the governor and presented him with checks totaling $21,000 for the Victims Relief Fund.
There was minimal coverage in the media of these positive acts.

Before casting these commandments aside as wacky statements, consider the context in which they were given.
God had just delivered the nation of Israel from slavery in Egypt. He had just led them into the desert en route to the lands He had promised to their patriarchs. He was in constant presence with them as a pillar of fire. He had just handed down the tablets to Moses. While Moses was on the mountain they, because they entirely lacked any self control, leaned on Aaron, he designated God's priest, to fashion them an idol to worship. And he did.
So God had had it with that bunch and laid down the law - literally. At the same time He showed his mercy by not destroying them. He remembered the promises He had made to Abraham, Isaasc, and Jacob.
If you read it, it is the narrative of a relationship between a Father and His children. If you consider that these "stiff necked people" lived in the visible pretense of God and still behaved the way they did, the relationship becomes easier for the "modern mind" to understand.
If it were me, I'd have reduced them to pot ash. But then, I'd probably reduce me to pot ash. And then, I would have canned Tomlin too.
