Who knew? Tomlin, Ryan more 'similar' than anyone realizes

PITTSBURGH -- One is loud. One isn't. One speaks his mind. One doesn't. One has a Super Bowl title as a head coach. The other's still in search of one.

But don't tell Mike Tomlin that he's not like the New York Jets' Rex Ryan. The Pittsburgh Steelers coach actually believes there are similarities between the two.

    Who knew?

Tomlin isn't the type to brazenly predict his team will win the Super Bowl. And he doesn't figure to ever make use of a weekly news conference to point out that the upcoming game is "personal," as Ryan famously has during this postseason.

Tomlin also works for an organization that would, in all likelihood, politely decline allowing HBO cameras to document the team's training camp, as the Jets did this past summer for a reality series.

But throw all that out for a second. During his weekly news conference Tuesday in advance of the AFC Championship Game between his Steelers (13-4) and Ryan's Jets (13-5), Tomlin implied that if someone were given that kind of behind-the-scenes access to his team, they'd discover that New York and Pittsburgh aren't that far apart.

Oh dear God, this is NOT a game we can afford to be thin in the 2ndary. Holmes, Edwards, Cotchery, Keller, and even LT out of the backfield are going to give us fits if we dont have enough depth to cover them properly.

    Flozell Adams (illness) are fine
That's a BIG sigh of relief, because if he DID get other lineman or players ill, they'd be coming down with it probably this afternoon, be sick tomorrow, and start feeling better on Thursday.

"Our styles are probably more similar than you would imagine," Tomlin said
    Does Tomlin like feet too?

Still, Tomlin isn't the type to suggest the absence of the Steelers' top playmaker left them handcuffed in the loss.
"We weren't," Tomlin said. "We're not going to use his presence or lack of presence as an excuse for anything. We have one standard and that standard is winning. The last time we played the Jets, they beat us."

I will say this, It is that comment that sets you guys apart in the elite level of NFL. The Steeler's orginization from the owners on down, including the fans focus on that attitude like a lazer (well except your homer fans who jump ship if you get down by more then two possessions in a game) I have truly come to appreciate how ingrained that belief is since joining the board. Best of luck this week

Thanks for the kind words Just George, you have been a breath of fresh air in these forums. Nice to have fans from other teams here to chew the cud with.

thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome. I appreciate talking and no matter how much I love me my Colts (That loss still hurts) I have always appreciated the Steelers and since knowing DDF have just become more impressed. As a fan of football I still get frustrated that your organization always seems to be portrayed with the black hats or worse treated as a "meh, average" team. Your history, stats and ( I got to admit it i am jealous) THOSE RINGS, demand that honest people admit Steelers need to be considered THE DYNASTY.

One is loud. One isn't. One speaks his mind. One doesn't. One has a Super Bowl title as a head coach. The other's still in search of one. One devours an entire loaded pizza. One eats just 2 slices. One is an egotistical potty mouth with a foot fetish. One is a humble man with a success fetish.
    There - fixed that.

Thanks, most of us are used to it, its not a big deal really. The fans of other teams know it, and the numbers speak for themselves.
