Texans retain Gary Kubiak as coach
The Houston Texans fired defensive coordinator Frank Bush on Monday but will retain head coach Gary Kubiak even after losing eight of their last 10 games, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Owner Bob McNair has made no official announcements, but the defensive shakeup was expected after the club finished 30th in yards allowed and 29th in points allowed.
According to the newspaper, McNair is expected to give Kubiak one more year but will bring in ex-Cowboys coach Wade Phillips to be the defensive coordinator. Bush had joined the team in '07 and then became coordinator in '09.
Kubiak is 37-43 in five seasons as the coach. While the offense produced the NFL's leading rusher, Arian Foster, and a team-record five 30-point games, the defense gave up a league-high 4,280 yards under Bush. Secondary coach David Gibbs also was fired, according to the Chronicle, and other changes on the defensive staff could be announced later this week.
