Re: Ravens believe they handed the Steelers the game

I thought the Ravens had Ed Reed and big, bad Ray Lewis- not to mention Peyton Manning Jr., Joe Falco??? They were supposed to be unbeatable, especially when they were going up against the bad guys of the NFL, the Steelers.

Don't even get me started on all the missed calls.

Yes, there is no conspiracy against the Steelers, however there is some kind of league agenda.

The Steelers get a first down on Offense back in Week 4 and the Ravens are battling for their playoff lives right now.

Get over yourself, Baltimore. You lost yet another meaningful game against the Steelers. Enjoy the Wildcard race.

    Congrats Steelers fans...
I don't think you guys played well enough to beat us. Let me get that out of the way. The Polamalu hit and fumble was what won you guys the game, and it came down to that play. But besides that, I think the Ravens beat themselves and it's been a common occurrence in every loss so far this season.
That still doesn't tell the whole story. The fumble put us in position, we capitalized, then BAL was driving down the field and couldn't get it done. A poor effort on third down and a pathetic pass on 4th down is what sealed the game. That series of events won us the game, Troy's forced fumble put the rest of the events in motion. Big difference. Not saying Troy isn't a difference maker, but a football game doesn't come down to a single play too often. There's a reason there are 60 minutes.

It will go down in the record books as a 13-10 Steelers win over Baltimore.

But the Ravens will always view it as something else.

“I’m sure they would like to say they took it with the turnover at the end,” receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh said. “We gave them the game. Y’all watched the game. Y’all know that. They know that.”

Troy Polamalu’s strip sack of Joe Flacco on a 2nd-and-5 play with a little more than three minutes left in 10-6 game led to the game-winning touchdown and left the Ravens stunned.

“We gave it to them,” linebacker Terrell Suggs said.

Instead of having control of the division with four games left, the Ravens are now sitting in the sixth and final wildcard spot in the AFC

There was one guy whose SN, ironically, was I_Bleed_Black_and_Gold who came right out and said "I'm done with this team" during a game in 2008, and we all know what happened that year. I made it my personal mission to never let him forget it.

Fourth quarter woes doom Ravens in loss to Steelers

By Aaron Wilson, Times Staff Writer Carroll County Times | 0 comments

BALTIMORE -- The football left quarterback Joe Flacco's fingertips in a hurry and artlessly skidded across the ground, bouncing toward rookie tight end Ed Dickson and painfully ending the Baltimore Ravens' dream of sweeping the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Instead of having kicker Billy Cundiff attempt to boot a 49-yard field goal into a blustery wind with goalpost flags and trash blowing in the wrong direction, the Ravens had Flacco go for it on fourth down.

The incompletion spelled doom for the Ravens as they relinquished their grip on the AFC North division, absorbing an emotional 13-10 defeat in their annual grudge match with the Steelers on Sunday night before 71,418 at chilly M&T Bank Stadium. The Ravens stumbled out of first place.

Steelers fullback Isaac Redman bulled through tackle attempts by strong safety Dawan Landry and outside linebacker Jarret Johnson on a nine-yard game-winning touchdown pass from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the final minutes.

"Obviously, it was a tough loss," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "Basically, we gave the game away at the end. We should've won the football game, and that's disappointing. We'll keep fighting like we always do. We'll find a way to get into the playoffs. We might still win the division."

The Ravens (8-4) fell one game behind the Steelers (9-3) in the division standings with four games remaining and will probably have to battle for a wild-card playoff berth. And the Ravens' eight-game home winning streak that dated back to last season was halted, ending the longest current streak in the league.

"This one is a heartbreaker," offensive tackle Michael Oher said. "That's our division rival, we want to beat those guys every time. We wanted to take control of the division. To lose this one, we'll have to keep fighting for the rest of the year."

Flacco short-armed the throw after he was unable to find Anquan Boldin downfield.

Why is it every single time DEFENSE wins a game for anyone, the other team says they gave it away. Baltimore is/was a defensive team they ought to know this as good as we do, sometimes the DEFENSE wins the game.

On a side note, they had the brow throw over 30 times, did they really think they had the personell (cough, QB cough) to try the Pats game plan??

Re: Ravens believe they handed the Steelers the game

Can you really blame the Ravens for being so bitter? The Steelers have been a major thorn in their side for YEARS. Each and every year we cause them pain. We break their hearts routinely. Baltimore fielded good teams, but it was always Pittsburgh who stood in their way. They had three shots at the Steelers in 2008, and they lost each one. We won BOTH playoff meetings over them. The Ravens have a pathetic record at Heinz Field. We eat at them so bad that it's seeped into obsession within the organization and fanbase. We're in their heads 24/7.

And with this recent win, we'll likely eat at them even more. The Ravens had everything going for them, they picked up Boldin and Housh in free agency, a solid Defense and running game, a healthy team and with Flaccid in his third year, the Ravens weren't fooling around anymore. This was going to be their time. A limping Steelers team walking into their place with first place on the line and chance to sweep them? The scenario couldn't be any more perfect, and we spoiled it.

Let's see. They were winning at the end of the game. They lost the football, their D let them score a TD, by our RB breaking 2 or 3 tackles, instead of holding us to a fieldgoal. Then Flacco throws the ball into the ground on fourth down.

I don't know, but in my book, it seems they handed the game to us- and we reached out and took it. Not sure what everyone is so fired up about.

First game, our FG kicker handed them the game, missing enough FG's to account for the difference in the score. At this level, games are given away as much as they are won, because the other team SHOULD be able to capitalize on those games.

We made a play when it was crucial and didnt give up so credit does go out to the steelers but i wish we would have played better as a group.
This is about how I feel.

I am in no way going to discount the fantastic play Troy made to pull us out of the fire... once again, but with what, under 4 minutes left, they could have easily played "run", burned as much of the clock as they could, and put us on a long field... again. Our drives were stalling. Earlier we had 3 shots for the endzone, and we had to settle for the field goal. Luckily that strip sack left us in great field position. I don't know if we could have put in in from anywhere beyond the 20. Hell, if it wasn't for Redman's effort, we don't get in from inside the 10.

Re: Ravens believe they handed the Steelers the game

OK they want to play woulda, coulda, shoulda, why can't we. Start with this, 0-0 game, Steelers with the ball 3rd and 8 on their own 44, Ngata commits a personal foul that goes uncalled. So instead of the resulting sack which forced a Steeler punt, the Steelers instead should have had first and 10 at the Ravens 41.

Follow with their one TD drive Basically the result of one long pass on 3rd and 15 from their own 3. 99 out of 100 times they don't convert that play, and end up punting form their end zone. Then further down the field same possession, on second and 18 from the Steelers 33 Houzidaddy catches a ball on the sideline for an 8 yard gain that probably could have been overturned on a challenge as he appeared not to get a second foot down. With a successfull challenge the Ravens are facing 3rd and 18 from the 33, and might not even get a fg out of that possession.

Early second quarter, Steelers with 2nd and 10 from the Raven 45 Ben throws an interception on what probably was a mix up of patterns by one of our rookie wideouts, ( Sanders) who ended up running his coverage right into the intended receiver.

Late second quarter, Steelers at the Ravens 38, 3rd and 10, Hines Ward drops a perfectly thrown ball, that would have resulted in first down yardage and put the Steelers in position to score at the end of the half. Hines catches that pass 95% of the time or more. ( see how we almost gave the game away yet? )

Late 3rd quarter Sanders goes down untouched at the 2 yard line, doesn't have the wherewithal to roll into the end zone, ( rookie mistake, not dissing the guy) Steelers end up settling for the fg.

And that's not to mention the uncalled Heath Miller helmet to helmet call, and the illegal formation ( that had nothing to do with the result of the play) that wiped out a 3rd down conversion to Mike Wallace mid 4th quarter.

So the way I look at it, if it wasn't for poor luck, missed calls, and a couple self inflicted gaffes, the Steelers would have run awauy with it.

Exactly. How about in the first game Reed makes the 2 FGs he missed, we're up 20-10 with a minute left and the TD pass to Housh is inconsequential. Shit happens.

Yep, great point. We were just as close to sweeping the series this year as they were.

But the truth is the split was the correct result, both teams earned their win fairly on the field, and no one should be bitching. I think the vast majority of Steeler fans, players and coaches get this from what i'm reading here ( you included fan) and elsewhere. But for some odd reason the Ravens, from coaches down to fans, just don't seem to get it?

Oh well, hope they don't let it spoil their season,.... well, actually I do.

Your squad of goons took Heath and the Hotel Flo out and tried your damnedest to take out Ben but in the end, the "hair", the hobbled up QB with the broken schnoz and a little man lovingly referred to as "Redzone" took a huge bite out of your asses.

    :
Yeah, and he actually got called for his false starts this time around too. Loved to have seen what sort of effect it would have had on the first game if the plays where Oher got an early start on in the first game were negated with a flag as they shoukld have been.

I didn't bother to read all 6 pages, but to me it's pretty simple. The Ravens didn't hand the Steelers the anything, Troy literally stole it from them. Went right over to Flacco, stole it, gave it to the offense ('it' being the ball and the victory). There is basically no other way of looking at it. The Ravens know that, but I can certainly understand that it feels better to say what they are saying.
