On the Steelers: Time for Hood to step up

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Ziggy Hood, defensive end of the future, your future is now.

The Steelers made Evander Hood the only defensive end they drafted in the first round in 21 years in 2009. They put him behind Aaron Smith on the left side with the idea he would learn from the best 3-4 end in their history, then assume the starting role when Smith retired.

I think he knows this is his chance to shine and prove himself, and this is it. He is not Smith by a long shot, but I think his skills will only improve.

Anyone else think that the writer might be jumping the gun?....Eason might get the slight majority of the snaps as they continue to work Ziggy into a starting role.

Yeah I agree. I've been disappointed that Eason has been our #3 defensive end so far in the season, and not Ziggy. But boy, is his time now or what? Sorry to toss you to the wolves Ziggy, but we need you kiddo!

I know sacks are not the the job of Steeler DL's but we've gotton almost no pressure off of Smith Keisel and Hampton all season. You would hope Ziggy is an improvement there!
