Something they said on the radio this morning talking about a different topic, made me think. Why is there no bidding war for Rodgers? There are several teams with a real need at QB. Rodgers is a first ballot HoF QB. If there's even half a tank left he's worth kicking the tires on. Why are more teams not interested, or don't seem to be interested in bidding on Rodgers?
I come up with 2 possible reasons.
1. He really is that washed up and even a Joe Flacco off the couch is a better option
or
2. The deal is already done
Could be a combo of 1&2 I guess.
You watched 3? teams take a chance on AB after his weirdo/entitled crap started, and you think teams would be too skittish to take a chance with a 5 time league MVP QB? Because he's weird? He has an entitlement complex? I don't think that's it. I think that is why most fans don't want anything to do with Rodgers on their team. But the football people running those organizations, weird and entitled is the norm in their world.
Yeah, he basically got Robert Saleh fired, drags Nathaniel Hackett wherever he goes, helped get Davante Adams to the Jets, throws his own teammates like Mike Williams under the bus when he throws an INT and the Jets still piloted the Jets to a 5-12 season. Sure there is the stuff about toxic relationships with his parents, brothers, girlfriends, etc. but that doesnt really impact anything on Sundays.
I just think he is pretty much done from a skill and desire to play the game standpoint. If he ends up with the Steelers, or he doesn't really does not matter much to me. At best this is likely the 3rd best team in the AFC North, so for me its about watching Steelers teams compete and hopefully finding that next long term starting QB next season hopefully.
I'm thinking more like buckle up for a long wait. I don't see any senior QBs coming out in 2026 that have a much better outlook than this year's crop. Is Nussmeier the top of that hill? Does Allar move the needle any? We can't count on underclassmen coming out early with the NCAA basically allowing players to earn NIL for 5 years. Maybe the GA QB that is now at Miami is going to improve to take over that QB1 spot for the draft. Idk, none of them impress really.
Back to ARod, there are lots of weirdos in the NFL. There are even lots of worn out QBs still hanging on. The Steelers bringing in Rodgers is not that far fetched, imo. Neither is Cousins or Dalton.
Probably because he's a weirdo, he's entitled, he's an asshole, he's a prima donna, he wants to run things his own way, he usually insists some of his pet players must be on the roster, and he's going to be 42-years-old and about to become the face and spokesperson of the team while offering no long-term solution to a quarterback problem.
Joe Flacco is willing to come into an NFL locker room and be a backup quarterback and mentor. He does not demand to be the unquestioned starter, nor does he hold teams hostage for the honor of his services. Rodgers does.
Antonio Brown was not 42 when teams were trying to get whatever he had left out of him. AB is currently 36 years old. AB was of an age that suggested he was still in his prime and still had a lot left. He was also not going to be the face of the team.
A quarterback becomes the face of your team. Tom Brady took AB into his home to try to win him over and gain his trust to get the best out of him. That is what a quarterback looks like that is willing to do anything to win. Darkness retreats and keeping a team waiting for months and possibly showing up after voluntary team functions doesn't scream "willing to do anything to win" or leadership.
When you add all that up and tack on the baggage that comes with him, I could see a whole bunch of teams not thinking he is the answer to the problem. Every NFL team had their chance to sign him this season, but I didn't see teams lining up and fighting to get him. If it was six years ago, they would have. His talent no longer outweighs all the crap that comes along with him.
NFL teams will put up with anything from anyone as long as the juice is worth the squeeze.
Aaron Rodgers is an average QB currently. Maybe not even that good. He is no longer worth the aggravation.
AB got how many chances before the league gave up on him? More than a couple.
I think it is also pretty clear that Rodgers doesn't work out in the offseason, doesn't put in full practice weeks, does zero mentoring of teammates, and the list goes on.
I am sure he will end up a Steeler, but he isn't going to really change much of anything.
