Because Lawrence has been a disappointment since he was drafted as a "can't miss" quarterback with the #1 pick.
His won/loss record as a starter is terrible. 22-38-0
He has been a turnover machine, and many fans have been screaming for the team to move on from him. 69 TD 46 INT 36 fumbles over four seasons.
He has physical talent, but hasn't shown any consistent growth or improvement. Has lacked any consistency in his play.
Quarterbacks with his pedigree are supposed to lift the franchises they play for. Clearly the Jags failed him with rookie head coach Urban Meyer. But even after getting "QB whisperer" Doug Peterson as his head coach, he hasn't progressed as expected.
He's still young and he still has talent. Can someone get him in the proper system and have the light turn on for him with great coaching? It's still unclear but possible.
He just signed a 5-year $275,000,000 contract, but the big cap hits don't really get big until 2028 at $47 million. It gets crazy after that with his cap hit at $78.5 mil in 2029 and $74.8 in 2030.
