Thanks and Steelers was a top 5 or 10 D for years till Austin took over in 2022, he doesn't like to blitz. Guess we need to connect the dots for some of these old folk posters set in their ways on here.

I'm sure the not blitzing as much does come from Tomlin and I can't say I disagree with that. Most of the best passing QB's in the league are mobile these days (see Mahomes ect). Blitzing them does not work. They take advantage you when you do that. What the Eagles did in the Super Bowl is what I think the Steelers are trying to go to on defense. Right now, they are lacking the players on the d'line to get that done (and to some extent in the secondary). In addition, before worrying about how much pressure you get on a QB you have to be able to stop the run, which we have not been able to do consistently for a few years now. I was in favor of replacing Austin to get some new life into our defensive scheme but ultimately we are lacking the talent to do what we want to do anyways.

I might look for blitz rates if I get stuck in mindless meetings at some point.

But my impression is along what your thinking. Not a great deal of blitzing out there. Unless you’re Flores. That dude just brings everyone all the time.

The Steelers were kinda sorta fine until they played teams that could pick on their nickel and dime DBs or shove them off the ball.

Art has proved it keeping the coaches after the history worse end of the season any NfL team has ever had, or he's dumb as a brick. You haven't proven anything. It may be that Rooney doesn't want to win, or it may be that Rooney wants to win but hasn't been successful at it. The only way to know that is to read his mind which you can't do. I say he does want to win and I say the burden is on you to prove he doesn't. You haven't proven anything.
