Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar
cuban said it best, it's frustration. Fans have no patience they want to win it all every year. And that's ok, but it's totally unrealistic in the NFL. The Steelers just need to get their shit together and be on the same page and gel as a team, it will come.
2008 was the last time, that was 18 years ago. Weve had the same head coach in all that time with the team frantically going through one Qb after another since Ben, while spending a ton on defense. Fans are understandingly impatient, i think Ownership might be getting impatient too.
and again, our choices of coordinators has been generally below average
Compared to other teams, I'd hardly describe our QB situation as you did. We drafted one guy and he didn't work out. A couple backups played, but they weren't any more than that. This year, they were smart and brought two guys in. Under the circumstances, they handled it perfectly this year. Results are to be determined in the playoffs.
maybe frantic is a bit harsh, but we did have Mason, Duck, Mitch, KP, and now Fields and Russ. All those guys were thrown out there with the hope they would be the next guy. Maybe Russ finishes the year strong and sticks around for a couple years, but it does seem we’ve gone through a number of Qb’s since Ben retired. I wouldn’t call how they've handled the Qb situation ‘smart’.
They never hoped Duck would be the guy. And Mitch was always a stop gap in their view. Kenny is the one they hoped would be the guy. And this year it was a one or the other scenario, not both. I get the frustration. It all underscores how hard it is to find a franchise quarterback. I’d rather them try a few than stick with one who sucks for four years.
Now it is just getting ridiculous.
Duck and Mason were backups who played because of injury and ineffectiveness. And, yes, I remember what Colbert said about Rudolph.
Trubisky was signed to be a meat shield until they wanted to put KP on the field.
KP asked to no longer be part of the team.
Wilson was an almost zero cost bet on former greatness.
Fields only played because Wilson was on the shelf with an old man injury for a couple months.
None of this was frantic. Frantic is what the Colts did with Richardson and Flacco. Or the Raiders with their stack of awful.
Hah! Yeah. And they did it to themselves.
Signing Rodgers is a sensible football move. But then letting him call all the shots when he’s clearly in decline was pretty dumb and a self inflicted wound they didn’t need.
A shocking number of NFL teams are just badly run.
How soon we forget, there was a hope all of those guys would stick and become capable starters. Even Duck. It is what it is, we didnt spend much capital on a Qb as long as Ben was here. Now we have to catch up. hopefully Russ can stick around for a couple years.
Packers seem to be doing it with a bit more pre planning in mind.
I don't think Tomlin wanted Mason to be a capable started. He seemed almost frustrated when he played well last year. I also think Khan wasn't sold on KP and since he didn't draft him he was good with moving on to Wilson.
I know folks swear Kenny quite but that dude knew damn well Wilson was the starter the moment he was signed. Tomlin told him Wilson was in pole position.

Other than KP none of the others were starting options.
Anyone who thought Mason, Duck, and Mitch were viable starters was a delusional homer.
KP had his shot. He missed it with the Steelers. Who knows what happens for him in Philly.
For the Steelers? On to the next option.
Merry Christmas
The Steelers picked up Mason in the third, some say as purely a backup some as a possible heir to Ben. Duck was inserted as the starter when they werent happy with Mason’s performance. Mitch was brought in after Ben retired as a starter, you can argue as a stop gap but if he played well they're not rushing to draft a Qb with a high pick. KP didnt work out. Now were here with Russ and Fields, who knows if they're here next year.
I’d guess Rudolph drafted to fill Ben’s shoes. I think they figured out quickly plan wasn’t going to work so tried Hail Marys with Haskins, Trubisky and Paxton Lynch. Much less successful than Aaron Rodgers at Hail Marys. The positives are all low risk moves like this year.
I personally think they should have STUCK WITH DUCK! We’ll never know…
Actually we do have the patience. Heck a lot of people have even said they would accept losing and a few 4-13 seasons if it meant getting us a shot at a real franchise QB. Like I said earlier we seem to be caught in the "insanity" loop and keep doing the same thing over and over.
One thing now is that I'm older and loses are gone 15 minutes later as opposed to days later. These guys get paid millions and them winning is fun to me but that's where it stops. My life and kids are way more important than the NFL. The NFL could go away tomorrow and I'd be fine.
I'd suffer a 6-10 to get Big Ben, but that's not happening until Watt retires
