Correct. It's not an easy process but recycling guys that have been busts or washed up veteran or drafting a guy because "you need one", that's not going to ever work and if it does (Kurt Warner) it's an anomaly. Darnold is not 2024 Darnold in any other 31 situations. Sam Darnold is who he is except with Kevin O'Connell...who by the way is the clear Coach of the Year winner now.
In order to get a Purdy, you have to have the right coaching, system and everything around has to be set up. That's not the case in PIttsburgh...they are far from that situation to drop a 5th, 6th, 7th round QB into an offense and succeed. Purdy would not be able to do that if he were dropped into Pittsburgh's offense.
Purdy has to have all pros at RB, WR, OL, TE.
Now he looks average. Probably the same with Darnold.
This offense with its long ass developing plays has been slow starting for a long time. It's not just Russ. Receivers always covered. Screen pass plays so slow that they have negative yardage most of the time or no gain.
