It might not be the case if the Lions defense can get some or most of its injured dudes back. And....a short Google search indicates they will not be getting any of those dudes back. All big time injuries.
They are basically the 2023 Steelers on defense now. Playing guys off the streets (Hi, Kwon Alexander. Good for you!). Guess they better just outscore everyone!
I would have to disagree. The defense was playing well to start. recovering fumbles and keeping the team in the game. But just like we have seen in the past if the offense keeps going 3 and out then the defense gets gassed and then they start to get exploited. Any team would have this problem if you your defense has to play 2/3 of the game. The offense is the ones that did not step up. 2 fumble recoveries and you come away with only 3 points? 10 total first downs compared to the other teams 26 first downs. Offense barely broke 150 yds total offense. 0 Points in the second half!
At what point do we stop blaming a defense that is being asked to do to much? Yeah there were some bone headed missed tackles and things but the defense was not the problem in this game (at least not the biggest). It was the offense. Plenty of blame to go around on the offense from the run game to the play calling to the front office not getting even a half way decent receiver. there have been plenty of receivers that were picked up and or traded for that didn't cost an arm or a leg but we didn't get any of them cause we kept swinging for the fences with Aiyuk. Hell the browns got Jeudy for two late rd picks and he is lighting it up (he had 108 yds yesterday, while Wilson threw for only 128 and that's with Jameis Winston throwing to him. We got Williams who barely seems to even get targeted or get on the field (6 games and 5 receptions).
