Every single time he goes to the tight ends, they're open for nice gains.

He passes up the check down all the time. On the last drive he had Najee right there, but passed him up to hold the ball and got hit while throwing it away. He was a millisecond from another fumble.

The dude blocking Watt keeps holding and hands to the face. He has been going to the face a lot in this game. Not called once.

Yeah. He’s trying to hit home runs every time.

Just take some singles and doubles.

That’s the biggest reason why I don’t want him to get a big deal. Wilson plays far too boom or bust.

I’m starting to see why Payton got so frustrated.

Not sure if we have the system or personnel for Darnold to succeed.

No one does unless they are named Kevin O’Connell.

Exactly. He's mediocre at best now. Next year he'll be a year older, and another year older the year after that.

Not a popular opinion around fans these days but I would still sign Wilson unless you really believe Justin. Admittedly, I am leaning towards hoping that it ends up being Justin. Of course, we will see what happens over the next two games. Honestly, I just don't want to deal with any other FA QB's next year. I don't think there is anything out there worth having to start over with the first year in Smith's system. Just pick one of the two, get better receivers, somehow get better on the o'line and stock up on (or at least don't trade away) draft picks so we can move up to get QB in the draft in 26. It doesn't give me high hopes for a deep playoff run over the next few years but at least I'd feel like we had a logical plan.

Next two games will tell the story for me but who knows what Tomlin thinks. Next week meaningless probably but important for team chemistry and confidence going into playoffs. If Wilson plays poorly in playoffs why double down , he was a bargain at 1.2 mill and zero risk so cut losses. If he plays well then possibly sign . Give Fields a chance it wasn’t like he was horrible at 4-2 and took care of football. Draft in 2026 like you said.

Agreed. Keep one or both, we still have to draft somebody. Although, I think we keep one and draft this year.

IDEALLY…the Steelers do all of the things.

    1. Wilson comes back on something team friendly. Two years, $60 million, not much in guaranteed cash.
    2. Fields resigns as well. No clue what a reasonable deal for him looks like.
    3. Trade back in the 2025 draft to pick up 2026 picks. Use those to get your guy.

Compete in 2025 with Wilson Fields. Compete in 2026 with Fields and draft pick. Contend in 2027 with “the guy” after he developed for a year.

Likely totally unrealistic and not gonna happen but that’s my ideal outcome.

Only way I see us draft a QB this year is if it is a flyer on a player in the mid to low rounds. That is especially true if we keep Justin because at this point that is what he is - a flyer on a QB that hasn't proven he can be the guy. Then again, I have been wrong before.

It's probably going to take far too much money to keep Trubisky and Fields. When you see what starter-level/backups are getting right now, I just don't see how it's possible to keep them both.

My preference would be to let Wilson go, keep Fields, sign an affordable veteran QB to mentor him, and most likely draft a developmental prospect this coming draft. Hope Fields takes a step forward in his understanding, processing, aggressiveness, and execution in the passing game while cleaning up his fumbled snaps under center.

If they don't think Fields is the guy, hope the developmental QB has some ability and go all-in on a 2026 quarterback.

The way I see it, Russ has two games left to change the narrative from the last three weeks. Likely, millions of dollars rides on it.

That’s almost certainly the most realistic scenario.

Kind of the one I’m in support of. Wilson is declining at an unknown rate but it’s happening. We don’t know if Fields is developing but his age allows for the possibility it could happen.

Imagine if Fields takes all his tools and makes a Lamar leap as a passer and processor? Holy smokes - that’s a heckuva player.

He gave them a bunch of gifts for Christmas. And they go out every Thursday. The whole offense. He pays the tab.

He has been a good teammate but he is old now. I still root for him.

He’d look younger if the line gave him another 2 seconds.

Russell Wilson isn't the answer and neither is Justin Fields. Very likely It's back on the carousel for 2025.

Anyone can panic in the pocket, fade in the redzone, heave long balls down the sideline to George Pickens and only hang up ten points. Kenny Pickett could do all of those things. Consistently.

Imagine if Fields takes all his tools and makes a Lamar leap as a passer and processor? Holy smokes - that’s a heckuva player.
That requires better coaching. The Ravens hired Todd Monken to help Lamar take the leap. We have no coach of that caliber to help Justin Fields.

So after all this talk about how good it was to get rid of Kenny and bring in Wilson and Fields this year so we wouldn't "waste" any more years of Watt, Cam and Minkah, we are now going to waste two more years and not contend until at least 2027. By 2027 Cam will be gone and Watt and Minkah will be on the way down.

Well “compete” means make the playoffs and then who knows.

But unless you have a “trade for Josh Allen” plan you would like to share, how else are the Steelers going to get the WB they need?

Last time they drafted one they won six games the prior year. Figuring they’re winning more than that, it is a two year process of acquiring the assets needed.

Monken is hardly a visionary or a genius. His biggest asset is being “not Greg Roman”.

Since the Steelers also have “not Greg Roman”; I guess they’re on their way.

No. He will be rooting for the Eagles until Jalen HUrts comes back and then complaining that Sirianni mismanaged the QB situation and Kenny didn't get his proper chance.
