Again, you act like when the Steelers sign a guy, that they automatically are saying the guy's a lock and are wrong when the guy doesn't work out. Sometimes they just take a chance on a guy. That doesn't make them "wrong" when the guy doesn't work out. His Contract demonstrates what his market worth is rather well. Backup ILB Malik Harrison (2 Year $10mil) is making more than Rudoph (2 yr $7.5mil) is.
Before he saved the 2023 season, most of the people here and Steeler fans in general didn't think he was good enough to even be a backup.

If Mason is the starting QB we will have a top 12 pick in 2026 and with all the likely compensatory selections we should get that should easily move us up 3-4 spots to get us a pick from 3-4 QBs of our choosing

I know. All the fans that think the sky is falling if the Steelers have a 5 win season have never had to watch Cliff Stoudt, Mark Malone, David Woodley, Kent Graham, Mike Tomczak under center.
Franchise QB talent doesnt fall to you at pick 20-25 that often, so I am fine if they have to really suck badly to get a shot at a QB.
But Mason Rudolph has really shown that his best talents in the NFL are holding a clipboard and getting paid.
And I'll predict again that if Mason is our starter, Tomlin will still get to 9 wins.

I still think they might make the playoffs with Mason at QB. Certainly, they could still be picking around 20 at the very least. If my memory holds, we made the playoffs with Tomczak playing a good chunk of a season and in fact made the AFC Championship with Malone. That is still one of the strangest seasons in Steelers history.
Fans lose their shit every time we make the playoffs and lose. If we won 5 games fans will have a major melt down, especially if Tomlin isn’t fired.

Bloody Blister had his moments - like when he came back to Pittsburgh when he was playing for another team (Denver?) and told his teammates that they had to be careful about the wind coming off the lake. I remember a quote from one of his teammates who said, "we knew what he meant." BTW Bubby is 62. I just can't believe that.
And just what has moving off of them accomplished? Right back in the same spot they were before. Which begs the question. Are the Steelers Desperate to find a QB, or can't find a QB because they are desperate?

Lost in all of the shuffle is how the offense is severely underpaid while the Defense, the lifeblood of the group, has been consistently garbage during the postseason drought. Now if the Steelers have been losing close games because they can't generate enough offense, then there would be a case of the QB being the problem, but they haven't. The Steelers Defense has been absolute dog water. No QB is going to fix that.

This is what teams that don't have a QB but win enough games to draft outside the top 10 are forced into doing.
The mistake that got made was "reloading" around Ben after his elbow injury. That should have kicked off what they are doing now. Harris, PF, Green, Pickett, Claypool all should've been OL, DL, and DB picks. Then trade around in the draft to go get a QB. They compounded that by allowing Colbert to helm one last draft. He tried to moonshot his legacy with the Pickett pick. It was an over-draft and a misevaluation based on Colbert's likely clouded judgement.
If Kahn and Wiedel had run that draft, I believe the Steelers would be a year further towards returning to real contention.
Imagine a restocked Steelers OL and DL with the assets needed to go get Drake Maye.

The track record speaks for itself. For all the things Pittsburgh prides itself in for its "stability", yet they are highly unstable and dysfunctional at the most important position in the league. Even the 80's Steelers weren't this terrible. I'd rather have one mediocre QB who stinks for years, than cycling through many QB's who are clearly aren't the answer.

For what? It's over for this current core, and it's time to rebuild. If what transpires in 2025 plays out like I hope it does, they're thankfully finally pulling the plug on this current experiment and stocking up for the 2026 draft.
