For me, this Sunday against the Bengals is going to shape my opinion about both Russ and this team. Being a road dog, going up against a top 5 QB. We're pretty healthy and have had extra days to prepare. From my perspective, the game is pivotal to how the season plays out. TBH, I'd like to know if this team is really good or just a pretender so I can adjust my expectations. And it's freaking time for TJ to get home.
I'm feeling this exact way! This game will be the pivotal moment for the rest of the season. Are we Frauds? I believe this game will answer a lot of those questions!

Were not frauds. We proved that after the Ravens game. It was just the case of a Tomlin team loss on a short week. Pretty sure they’ll bounce back against the bengals (i hope lol). The talent is there, just a matter of focus and making adjustment.
Winston may have temporarily resurrected his career with back-to-back wins over the Ravens and Steelers.
As far as Wilson goes he is one of the most polished QBs to ever play in Pittsburgh. As I said in another thread the Steelers could not score points in the 1st quarter against the Browns because of lack of execution and putting Fields in when Wilson's better arm should have been playing. Not to mention the short week and poor weather conditions.
All Defense!
To me everything still starts up front on the offensive and defensive lines. The Steelers won the time of possession battle, turnover battle, total yardage battle, but only had 6 points in the first 3 quarters and turned the ball over on downs in short yardage against the Browns.
They need to be able to be physical up front and run the ball on short yardage and inside the 10 yard line to score TD's, rather than settle for FG. Sure some of that is scheme, some technique, some attitude. Sure there are 2 rookies on the O line, but Seumalo, McCormick, Frazier, Jones all have the capacity to be nasty maulers in the run game....my question is why dont we see that when its needed?
I hope things turn up, but given the season long trend of kicking FG over scoring TD's, I still dont think the Steelers are a top 3 team in the AFC.
We have Washington to use in short yardage as well. It was talked about a short while back that Leglue was being brought in, he can move into a 6th OL role in a 'jumbo package'. I read that Najee's in-season playing weight is closer to 245 than his listed 235.
All this, in addition to Russ being one of the better PA QBs over his career, I don't get why we can't seem to have success in short yardage. Whether that is redzone or mid-field. We have both the brute strength AND the ability to finesse. At least that is how I read our personnel.
If we want to bring in Fields for short yardage packages, he is 6'3"-235. We have all seen his quickness and burst from earlier in the season.
I have a very hard time believing the coaches don't know how to get what we need out of this offensive group. I am of the thought this is 99% execution of the play. Not having everyone on the same cadence or something that happens at the snap each and every time. Going back to the Browns game, their front 7 beat us over and over. They were just better that game. The Bengals should not be. We should win the majority of those snaps. If we do not/cannot, this is our ceiling this season.
The easy observations to make in short yardage is by looking at the Steelers Jerseys at the LOS and then the opposing team jerseys. Then observe...are the Steelers linemen gaining ground or are the opposing linemen gaining ground across the LOS?
What happened last week and other weeks is the Steelers O line makes contact and is stalled. Similarly at times the opponent O line has been pushing Steelers D linemen backwards in short yardage. Not sure that its scheme as much as mindset, technique of getting under opponents pads and driving the legs. Not sure if I want to point to the O linemen themselves or to Meyer, but they cant be out physically played in short yardage and it looks like that is what is happening.
Washington may have alligator arms, not good in the redzone.
Wilson is second in passing yards per game, behind only Burrow by 7 yards. He’s 5th in passer rating at 104.3.
It is the first time he's done it years. Seems like the mini bye week had Wilson doing some self scouting. I didn't think he was capable of an honest assessment of his performances.
Great to see. If Wilson can continue to get the ball out quickly in addition to deep shots, that's a fully functional offense.
When's the last time we saw that?

3TD passes to 3 different receivers. Plus Najee running one in. 4 weapons scored TDs. That has been the cry. More than one player and TDs instead of FGs.
Add in that pick 6 should have been called DPI, and this game is not close.
I'm convinced that Arthur Smith took him in a room and showed him all the plays he was leaving on the field by holding the ball to look for the deep ball. That's what I think happened....and Russell Wilson saw the tape, took the coaching, and looked for what the defense was giving him.
Now remember...this is the Bengals defense we are talking about here. Wilson and the Steelers had 254 yards after the catch. That is an incredible number and is certainly a damning stat against the horrible Bengals' defense. However, defenses have been scheming to take away the deep ball, and Wilson was holding the ball and making mistakes and negative plays. If Russ is able to continue to read the defenses, audible, and get the offense into favorable plays against coverage, this team is dangerous. Russ finally used Freiermuth, and seemingly found every easy completion that was on the field in this game. It was awesome to watch. Russ playing like that will also create more chances for big plays down the field.
This isn't how things are going to go against better defenses and better teams, but it will go a long way to giving the team a better chance in every single game they play the rest of the way.
Great job out of the coaching staff and Russ to take the coaching and make the correction that will ultimately make the entire team much better going forward.
Wilson’s audibles and decisions on when to take sacks or throw it away was excellent.
On the PF TD (I think), the Bengals deep safety went outside to take the boundary “moonball” away. Too late he saw PF coming up the hash and tried to get back inside. I’m pretty sure he basically fell down.
Long story short, I think you’re right. Someone go through to Wilson. I’m just surprised it (finally) got through.
Hats off to Wilson and Smith for getting it done.
What happened in the Bengals game is the Steelers offense evolved from AFC Central to NFC West. Did you notice that Wilson also runs a quick offense even with the lead and less than 10 minutes left in the game when he could have been running time off the clock.
All Defense!
The deep ball is very huge and it open up all the other thing for the steelers
Where are all the people who said Wilson was washed up and Fields should continue to start because the team was able to grind out a 4-2 record?
All Defense!
