I disagree. The defense is good, even great, against young or 2nd string QB's, or lower tier 1st string QB's. Against upper tier QB's they are picked apart and can't get off the field on 3rd downs. Our two losses this year were on the defense because the defense allowed two middle of the road QB's to march up and down the field on them at crucial times. Once the Steelers start playing Mahomes, Burrow, Jackson, etc. it's going to be even worse. It might even be bad against Rodgers this week.

Every QB decision that Tomlin has made since Ben retired has been the wrong decision. It looks like that's going to continue this year. My only hope is that all this talk of Wilson playing this week is just a ruse to keep the Jets unsure of which QB to prepare for, and that it's actually going to be Fields. I don't know if Tomlin is smart enough to do that, but if he is I'll give him credit.

And the Steelers have the #2 ranked scoring defense in the league. But to answer your question, from my observation (no stats available) it seems that failure to score TDs in the red zone is a big reason.

Right? Might be why all 32 teams are obsessed and consumed with finding and maintaining a top tier QB.

A great example is that the Vikings defense is being universally lauded and applauded this year. And Jordan Love came in off injury and lit them up.

Scoring was down for like 4 weeks....and then teams that have star players began to assert themselves and the points have followed. Gee....it is almost like those players didn't play together in the preseason and took 4 games to get their crap sorted out. Who could have figured? Apparently, not Mel Kiper.

TV and Radio talking heads make the NFL seem harder to figure than it actually is. Defense starts ahead of offense. It has always been that way, at least as long as I have been watching football, and it gets more pronounced every season as fewer and fewer offensive players get any preseason work.

so let me get this straight Cousins is middle of the road and has a MUCH higher completion percentage and lifetime rating (way less starts but still accumulating stats) ...

My guess is you wasnt very high on Marino either (an all time great) , YET you are KP8 biggest cheerleader .... please consider being consistent

You made the comparison. Instead of hoping nobody actually read your post putting those two names together in a direct comparison and denying it never happened....explain yourself.

Don't say that VOR has nothing. It's up to you to try to make sense of what you typed into a keyboard, because it doesn't make sense comparing Cousins to one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of football.

Yeah, actually targets for Pickens, amazing how that can fix a lot when you target what should be a top WR (he would be top 5 with any team that has an offensive gameplan and a decent QB)
