The Pittsburgh Steelers are off to a hot start at 2-0. However, their offense has been anything but hot in those two wins. New offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's offense has only generated one touchdown, a 5-yard pass from QB Justin Fields to TE Darnell Washington. Otherwise, it has been K Chris Boswell who is putting points up.

    Re: FIRE Arthur Smith!

The past two Sundays I have watched at least a quarter of every game played. Many in entirety. The Steelers offense could be good but they literally take 1-2 risks a game with the passing game, and almost none when there is a lead. Other teams (90%) continue to take calculated risks even when ahead by 15-20 points. I can’t blame Fields in any way for the small numbers. It’s the offensive philosophy. I can’t argue with 2-0 both on the road. So I doubt Tomlin cares what his critics think.

To find out what this offense can do, unfortunately they’re going to have to play from behind. That’ll happen soon enough.

I don’t know about the Ravens. They were up two scores and looked to bury their heads to try to milk that game. But for argument sake, I see the same…

    8 FG's and 1 TD.

and we are 2-0. But last year the wins didn't seem to help if we didn't put up 20 points. Thankful for the wins but this offense is still offensive.

I hope we give Wilson a shot soon to we can see if this is a Fields thing or it will happen regardless of the QB. We play not to lose football.

Maybe the Steelers' performance in Week 1 wasn't so bad after all. The Eagles just lost to the Falcons at home.

My dog who showed me what true unconditional love means and was the love of my life passed away last year so I understand how difficult it is. The decision to put her down was one of the most emotionally difficult ones I have ever had to make, but it was the right one because I didn't want her to suffer either.

Sorry, man. I've had dogs since I was in kindergarten. I rescued my American Bully 3 years ago and he doesn't like it when I scream at the TV while watching sports esp the Steelers. Dogs are family

Where have all the NFL's 300-yard passers gone? Steelers, others ushering in new conservative era

Passing numbers are way down across the league, while rushing stats are trending upward

    Re: FIRE Arthur Smith!

From what I can tell from reading and listening to explanations about this very thing; it seems that Shanahan and McVay designed offensive systems to beat the wave of Cover 1 and Cover 3 that swept across the league as a result of the success of Seattle's Legion of Boom era defenses. And now defenses have adjusted -- playing Cover 2 (again....since after offenses figured out the wave of "Tampa 2" that swept the NFL...it fell out of favor...) and cranking up the pass rush to take away explosive plays.

Teams are now dinking and dunking in search of answers.

Seems to me....get a better OL and run the ball....that oughta start bring one of those safeties back into the box....

Anyways.....seems like it is all a big cycle. Starts in the 1970s with Noll and Carson. Then offenses adjusted and it wasn't as popular. Dungy revives it and updates it. Then offenses adjust and it falls out of fashion again. Then Fangio and others revive it and it is sweeping across the league.

Of course.....the common thread among some of these defenses is that you can not simply just drop a scheme over your defense and be like "we got it now!"....you have to have actually talented players to pull it off......

Of course there is a counter to all this.....many observers are arguing that since Cover 1 and Cover 3 have been and still are the most dominant coverage calls per game across the league.....it is crappy OL play that can't stave off the pass rush long enough to take deep shots....

Teams should use a FB more in passing plays to provide another competent blocker, and they can pop out and take a dump off pass at the last minute. Or at least a RB that can do more than touch a pass rusher.

Asked Justin Fields how much freedom he has at the line of scrimmage to can a play or check into another concept: “If we have a run play called, we’re going to stick with that play call.”

Reading more than a single line reveals Fields and Smith are talking about pretty standard offense stuff.

They have to be better at running the ball early to have an effective play action. Even when the Steeler do run the ball effectively in a game, it takes them too long to get it going. Their run game warms up like my old 79 LeBaron - handed down through the family - station wagon. What a classic with its genuine plastic imitation wood siding.

Coming out passing some on first and second down will get rid of the stacked boxes. They can’t be so predictable on first and second down.
