I got no direct knowledge of what is or is not taking place in California. I guess I will have to let the residents of that state fight it out.

I can say that I am supportive and amazed to see parents that give a crap about their kids education and push them to do well and challenge themselves. In over a decade of working in education in my area that is not what I have seen. Mostly people arguing with educators that school is unimportant and math is pointless.

Combine that with the bone deep cuts to education that successive administrations have made for over 15 years and it is almost impossible to do the basic job. Glad I got out. Losing battle.

I am amazed that you're amazed. For all of my life I have seen that the vast majority of parents are deeply concerned about their kids' education. I don't know what area you live in, but I'll bet it is dominated by liberals or people who have been indoctrinated by liberals.

I specifically asked why it is not called English any longer. The answer was it was not inclusive. Only a limp-wristed liberal would claim English is not inclusive. ELA is not inclusive.

As for Integrated Math, it was stated that only some pre-algebra would be taught. There is no Algebra I class. Why? They said it was unfair to students that couldn't understand it.

The thing that bothers me is the border free flow. I would say there's about a 100% chance it will affect us,family,friends or someone in close proximity, maybe sooner than later in a very bad way. It's already doing it in alot of places. Our soil is destined for terror for sure. That’s something that's coming at any time now in my opinion. Iran becoming nuclear capable is another. Those people live to die because of their religious beliefs.As bad as the COL is,it pales compared to terror.

I taught in the most blue-collar portion of my state and in voting districts that are typically Republican strong-holds.

In those areas schools were seen as attempts to brainwash children, each and every funding request was voted down, and then as all the towns began to decay and die out as young people left in droves in attempts to find work as no employers could find the workers with the skills needed locally....everyone wondered what happened and blamed the schools.

The message many students get at home is that school is not important. Waste of time and money. Just get a job and start working where the real learning will begin. Shockingly a GED and barely literate communication skills is not enough to advance in the workplace in 2024.

The schools there probably had liberal teachers who WERE attempting to brainwash the children, and the funding requests that were turned down were probably for liberal programs. But this wasn't done because the parents DIDN'T care about their children's education, but because they DID.
