Re: Brandon Aiyuk To The Steelers?

The Steelers’ offer was around $28 million per year that several other receivers (DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle, Amon-Ra St. Brown) got this offseason. They’re stable, with a Super Bowl-winning head coach, but haven’t won at the level the Niners have of late, and don’t have geographic appeal, either,” Breer said.

The Steelers have maintained silence on the rumors. Still, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith acknowledged that his offense changes from year to year, especially given the importance of each position within the framework of his offense. Yet, he did not comment on adding to that room, opting to focus on who is in that room right now.

Steelers have won two Super Bowls since the last time the Niners won one (30 years ago). Shanahan is Mr. Close But No Cigar. Aiyuk wants the contract the Steelers offered but the Niners don't like the trade deal.

Whatever happens, happens. My only concern with giving draft picks is if we need a QB. I like the gamble with Russ and Fields but don’t want to go all in on it. Either way I have faith they’ll figure it out regarding salary cap and drafting another Ben. As a fan it’s above my pay grade.

They may get picks in return for Heyward or Harris or Muth or a combination or none…they may have a long game plan and those picks are meaningless to a point to them in their master plan…maybe???

It’s so weird how the 49ers have handled this. Just make the trade to Pittsburgh. Everything is there except a WR in return. They signed Anderson so there’s your insurance policy…trade Aiyuk and then attempt to make another trade for a WR in a separate deal. They’re just being babies about this. Lynch is like a little boy who needs his hand held.

I honestly believe they never intended to trade Aiyuk.

They just let other teams show him that their offer is competitive and reasonable.

Aiyuk doesn’t want to play for the teams that are willing to pay $30+ million.

Now the Niners can use that to get him to come down on his contract demands and make another run with this core of skill guys.

Then trade Deebo or CMC in a year or so to absorb the cap charges.

I tend to think that as well and wonder if they do wind up signing him why they just wouldn’t have done it months ago so that he doesn’t go through this nonsense of a hold in and missing time.

Some of the reports are very conflicting. The Conmanders, the amount of Steelers reports, the Patriots/Browns, negotiations not negotiating nonsense all being fed by the Niners…those reports have slowed way down since the guy was called out by Aiyuk.

Honestly, the subject is now getting old. No need to refresh twitter. If it happens, it'll come as a nice surprise whenever it does, but it likely won't.

Silence likely means they’re finishing up details.

Assume the Niners resign Aiyuk. Then this was a master class in how to handle this. They let Aiyuk feel like he was shopping himself around. Then get him to stay for likely close to their opening offer. All without upsetting the player too much.

Who knows. A deal with the Steelers or another team could still happen

I also think all the reports were likely trumped up nonsense and likely significantly overstated the pace, progress, and depth of negotiations.

What exactly is this about how the Steelers don't have geographic appeal?

It’s a fancy way of saying no one really wants to live in western PA. Unlike say California or Vegas or Florida.

I love Florida and Vegas in the winter time , but lets be real here nobody enjoys 95 and 90% Humidity so Florida is out in the summer .... Vegas too for the 110 and a ball of sun ....

California ?? not a chance those people are just strange for the most part and the homelessness is beyond insane ............. I prefer to walk on sidewalks without human feces on them ...

Western Pa is home but with all its faults we do not trip over the homeless to get into the local 7/11 (better yet Sheetz the more regional gas convenient store with far better food choices) ..The humidity can be brutal here at times but far more tolerable than Florida .... we never have to deal with 110 like Vegas .......... so yeah its not perfect here but we have a true 4 seasons , great hunting and fishing and I have been able to ride my motorcycle at least 1 day a month for 3 consecutive years running and am able to ride pretty consistently from April into November ....

The Beauty of Western Pa is once you step out of the city and get into the countryside .... Cities are UGLY everywhere IMO , give me the smells of fresh cut lawn , seeing horses run in the fields or wheat swaying in a field and the sounds of birds over bumper to bumper traffic and sirens all day long ... but hey maybe that's just me
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar

True. There is no blueprint for who should or shouldn't like different areas of the country.

Every area is beautiful in someone's eyes, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Re: Brandon Aiyuk To The Steelers?

I don’t disagree with any of this.

But the data from the specific subset of 20 something year old millionaire professional athletes, overwhelmingly indicates they don’t want to live in former rust belt areas. They prefer coastal cities. Or at least claim to.

This is where the original writer’s claim was coming from.

Often times teams in the middle and north of the country have to pay a slight tax to sign FAs.

Now…if you’re a SB contender; that math can change.

Vegas and Florida I get. No income tax, the football season is mostly in the winter so the weather isn't brutally hot, and you can live anywhere you want in the offseason. But why in the hell would you want to live in SF area and pay CA taxes.

Schefter is now reporting there’s a deal in place as well. So we will find out if Aiyuk wants to live in San Fran or Pittsburgh…lol

It sounds like balls in Aiyuks court. Niners offered less I believe. No CA taxes I’d go to Pittsburgh!

I'll be honest. I have no idea why Aiyuk wants to leave that 49ers offense. I know he likes Tomlin but this could b a awful decision on his part. Is $2m that important?

To me 2m very important! I get your point though. I’m sure he wants to play with Wilson, an all pro future HOFamer.

This has become a circus. I would end it now. We haven’t even found out if we have a QB that can take advantage of his skills. When was the last time the Steelers went “all in” on a WR? I still want to see what we can do with Pickens, with a solid QB and a proven OC. There is nothing about Aiyuk that says, “I gotta have him”.

That is what makes no sense to me. Without further information.

The difference of being able to possibly win a SB or get bounced in the wildcard seems important.

These players now they move around and have little loyalty as well as short attention span.

Hassan Redick got traded and now wants to be traded again lol. I mean the Jets suck but still.
