Steelers Announce 2024 Hall Of Honor Inductees

The Steelers Hall of Honor is the ultimate recognition for those who have made immeasurable contributions to the organization, whether it be on the field, or off the field.

On Saturday, the newest additions to the group were welcomed into the fold when the Hall of Honor Class of 2024 was announced during a ceremony at Saint Vincent College as a part of the Steelers Back Together Weekend celebration.
The Hall of Honor Class of 2024 includes four individuals who were part of Super Bowl teams for the Steelers, with three of them part of the same championship team. Linebacker Jason Gildon, nose tackle Casey Hampton, defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau and running back Willie Parker highlight a class that brought plenty of glory to the black and gold.

I guess they didn't discount "his long runs".

FWP was impactful in quite a few games that also ended up with a Super Bowl win. But did he have suddeness or glide??

Re: Steelers Announce 2024 Hall Of Honor Inductees

Honestly, when the Steelers first started doing the ring of honor, I didn't think much of it. We were noted for not having cheerleaders, retiring number and basically just going about the business of football without all the extra fufu. It's a different world now and I am glad they started it. The Hall-of-Fame guys don't need it really. Nobody is forgetting out hall of famers from the 70's. But for guys Mike Wagner, Gerry Mullens and Jon Kolb from the 70's; player from down years in the 80's like Tunch and Lipps; and some great contributors from the modern era, who will eventually get in like a David Decastro it is really great to see them up there (or will be).

Here is the full list of who is in:
    https://www.steelers.com/history/hall-of-honor/

    Requirements:

Retired for at least three seasons
Must have played for the Steelers for a minimum of three seasons
Should possess noteworthy career highlights, records, and achievements

I am really happy for "Big Snack" He is the type of player who will never sniff the hall of fame but contributed as much to the Steelers in his era as any player on the team save for Big Ben. Without Big Snack the defense just doesn't work.

Little surprised by Gildon's inclusion. I'm not really going to argue with any player they put in unless I start seeing David Woodly, Daryl Simms or Harvy Clayton on the list. My memory of Gildon is that he was very good for just a few years but then his production dropped off. Of course, there are plenty of reason outside of a players control for a drop off in play, including injuries and the performance of the players around him. So, I just say congrats to Jason and the othe inductees.

A couple of players for the future consideration that might be over looked:

    1) Randy Grossman - Ok, He only had a little over 100 career receptions. But, many of the receptions were in big circumstances. By that point Cunningham was just an extra tackle and what short passing game the Steelers had was Grossman and running backs. he was also one tough "Rabbi."

    2) Jeff Hartings- Will always be overlooked because he is not Mike Webster, Dermonnti Dawson or even Pouncy. But Hartings was a technician at the position. Also, on the way to that Super Bowl he played murders row of NT/DT that no Steelers center has ever had to navigate including but not limited to Natta ( think 3 times that year), Vince Wilfork, and Jamal Williams and others. Needs the recognition which he will eventually receive I am sure.

Aaron Smith. I’m surprised (but not surprised) he got in already. He played his position to perfection…which means he got very little statistical praise, which was what he was supposed to do, to allow the LBers to make the plays.

It’s nice to see that the organization notices these guys worked hard and that they recognize it for who and what they are instead of for the media…

actually Gildon was the steelers all time Sack leader at the time of his retirement ... he is still 4th all time

    TJ- 96.5 sacks

    Harrison 80.5 sacks

    Cam Heyward 80.5 sacks

    Jason Gildon 77 sacks

    in comparison Joey Porter SR 60 , Keith Willis 59, Woodley 57 , Greg Lloyd 53.5 ....
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar

    Inventor of the "Dong Sack."

In light of many a fan being bamboozled and ga-ga over Jason Gildong's 11 sacks in '98 --- despite only 2 being anywhere near "earned sacks" --- I've devoted considerable time the past 2 seasons to monitor the work of the exceptionally average Jason Gildon.

Gildon, as you may recall, hoodwinked enough voters in '00 to be voted in to a reserve spot in the Pro Bowl. Jason has been famous enough with his coverage sacks, flop sacks, the QB-slipped-on-the-wet-turf sacks, the OT totally forgot his blocking assignment sacks, and so on, that the NFL designated a new statistic, called the "Dong Sack", in honor of Jason Gildong. (Some fantasy football leagues are incorporating this into their point systems.)

Again in '01, I'll take time to expose Jason Gildon for the fraud that he truly is.

I'm not arguing against anyone's inclusion in the Hall of Honor unless somebody totally undeserving makes it. I know Gildon had a good career here. For some reason, I just remember being underwhelmed by his play the last few years of his career. I do think sack numbers are a bit overrated at times, but 77 sacks are nothing sneeze at. Overall, I'll take Lloyd and Porter over Gildon but congratulations to Gildon on making the Hall of Honor.

Gildon was a quiet dude overshadowed by the loud Peazy. Also those teams in the late 90s and 2000 were underwhelming. Any media focus on them was mainly on Bettis, Kordell and Peazy.

Did he get Dong sacks, yeah. He was a good #2 pass rusher but not dominant.

In order to get dong sacks, you still had to be in the right place at the right time.

A former poster here with the screen handle of teegre got banned from that same board for making celebratory posts after the Steelers won SB XLIII.

"Still Mill" is the perfect example of someone who goes through life miserable unless they're bitching about something.

I can’t imagine someone still dedicating time to this years after a guy retired.

Imagine how empty their life must be otherwise?
