Who are you taking for a 5-year stretch?
TJ Watt

James Harrison

James Harrison by a landslide.
When he was at the top of his game, nobody was better. Offensive players legit feared the guy for their own personal safety.
Not taking anything away from TJ Watt. I don't think anyone out there is legit afraid of Watt, he is just really, really, really good. He is amazing in his own right and for his own reasons, but he doesn't bring that toughness or meanness that Harrison brought to the team.
Harrison also played the best defensive game I have ever seen. You'll remember it when you see it. Here are some highlights.

Harrison also gets bonus points for body slamming that Cleveland Browns fan to 'protect his coach'. I think Watt would just let security handle something like that.
Keep in mind, the rules and the enforcement of those rules was way more lenient in Harrison's time.
TJ Watt. He’s more of a disturbance in different aspects of the game and from multiple positions. He’s an absolute single handed difference maker when on the field. Harrison was a beast and a rushing monster but Watt is that and more. Can’t really go wrong with either or.
Silverback - more durable
both were dominant, maybe TJ has the edge in that hes bigger and can disrupt pass plays not only by getting to the QB but by taking away passing lanes. But at the end of the day i’d rather take a full season of James over 10 ish games of a healthy TJ

He was durable as a tank. Can't imagine being clocked by that man.

James got shafted at the end in playing time. You never know what somebody might do when playing time and money are involved. Never say never. Hayward is on the fence now. Who'd a thunk it?
I agree with this. It is so close because they both have the ability to change the outcome of games almost single handedly. I'll take TJ by a smidge because I think he has to do more to rush the passer. In Harrison's day the d'line basically blocked for the linebackers while TJ is more on his own.
so this is 2007-2011 Harrison vs 2018-2021 and 2023 Watt...This is very close, hard to tell
Tough question. IMO they are both monsters, but if i had to choose one it would be TJ. He is more versatile and when healthy he can take over a game.
Both. They play on opposite sides.
I’d take TJ he’d never go to the Patriots.
Watt. He’s a game wrecker. Harrison was a force for sure but Watt alters teams approach.
B-b-b-b-but pass rush win rate or whoever PFF ranks higher.

If you are on a team, and you are not happy with your situation, what you do is continue to act like a professional, do what you're told, do whatever you can to help the team in whatever way you can. What you do NOT do is make a nuisance of yourself with childish passive-aggressive crap to get yourself thrown off the team. I know some people don't like Tomlin, but not liking Tomlin does NOT excuse Harrison's behavior at the end.
Having said that, I think Harrison was otherwise awesome, I will never forget his great plays including the INT return in the Super Bowl.
I have no idea how to answer the OP's question as they are both great.
That interception return has to be considered among the best plays in Super Bowl history. So pivotal and with no time left on the clock. If somebody trips him up the outcome might be different. It was great that Ben and Santonio combined for another one of the greats in the same game.
James needed an oxygen mask after that return. As far as the catch i was on a damn plane when that happened so i don't have the appreciation some others do for that play. My favorite Steelers SB play is still the 66 yard bomb from Terry to John Stallworth in SB14. I dont know if that will ever be replaced.
nearly impossible to choose , but since that is the entire reason for the thread ....
Harrison and not because of any of the reasons already given but for two others ...
NOBODY set the edge like James , NOBODY .......
He basically is the reason the last Lombardi is in the trophy case , so until such time as TJ helps get one (and he may) its gonna stay James Harrison for me and I love what TJ has accomplished thus far
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar
Another factor: Harrison enabled Tomlin teams to win playoff games and a Super Bowl. Watt didn't.
It’s so close but I think I’d go 55/45 Watt. Harrison never sniffed the kind of sack numbers TJ puts up. But Harrison was a beast and belongs in the hall of fame.
Watt is bigger, faster, probably not stronger. Watt is the better player and it's not close. Watt has excelled from Day One. Harrison had a big impact in a couple games for a period of time. Best play in Super Bowl History. Harrison was dominant from 2007-2010? 11?. So 5-Years. Watt has not, NOT been dominant from Day One.
