Authorities in Florida have issued an arrest warrant for Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton for alleged domestic battery by strangulation, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday.
Authorities posted on social media that they needed the public's assistance in locating a wanted subject.
"We became aware of the ongoing legal situation involving Cam Sutton this morning," the Lions said in a statement on Wednesday. "We will continue to monitor the situation and will not have further comment at this time."
Sutton, 29, signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Lions in March 2023 after spending the first six seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Sutton has recorded nine interceptions in 101 games in his career with 56 starts.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton in Hillsborough County (Fla.) in relation to a March 7 domestic violence incident.
The warrant was made public by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Wednesday morning via the department's social media. Sutton is wanted for domestic battery by strangulation, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
"The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office needs your assistance in locating a wanted subject: Cameron Sutton, 29," the tweet read. "... He may be driving a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with a plate number of FL-AZ33QB."

WAS one of my favorite under-rated players. I can’t like a guy that puts his hands on women and children in violence. We don’t know the whole truth of the story yet. I hope it’s not as bad as it looks to be.

At this point I just hope he hasn’t done something to himself. He’s been in hiding for 2 weeks now. That’s a long time without somebody seeing him or his car or something.

Cameron Sutton Revealed in College: ‘I Just Black Out’
While he was playing football for Tennessee in college, Sutton was forced to briefly leave a November 2014 game against Missouri while showing symptoms of a concussion. The cornerback later revealed that he regularly suffered blackouts while playing, raising concerns of a more serious condition.
“From time to time, it just happens throughout the course of the day,” Sutton told 247Sports in 2014, via AL.com. “I might black out, but I just keep walking and nothing ever happens. It’s the first time it’s ever happened in a game. But, you know, I can’t let that stop me from going back out there and finishing the rest of the game.”
Sutton stressed that he suffered from the condition regularly.
“It doesn’t happen every day. For the two seconds it does happen, I just black out, come back, keep going about my business,” he said.

The Lions released starting cornerback Cameron Sutton on Thursday, two weeks to the day after a warrant was issued for his arrest on a felony charge of domestic battery.
Team president Rod Wood admitted on Monday that, the day before the Lions released Sutton, he was in the team’s facility.
“We learned about the warrant the same time everybody else did, on social media,” Wood told Fox 2 in Detroit from the league meetings in Orlando. “And we were able to speak to Cam because he was actually in our building. And we found him, he was down with our strength staff. He kind of showed up unexpectedly to work out. We were able to talk to him in person — not me but other members of the staff. And he left the building and we released him the next day and no one has spoken to him since.”
