If Wilson can play well and the Steelers can sign him for two seasons at $30M per, with the cap going up, draft a QB in the 2026 draft (which should be a better class), that would be ideal and make this work much better than trying to do a one and done with Wilson and rocking a QB out of the 2025 draft…

I could get behind that plan…

I'm happy with this signing as we didn't unload the bank on him plus people forget he is a 9 time pro bowler. I will take that any day for what we gave for him. It was a no brainier to sign him for 1.2 million.

I still don't understand why signing RW to a one-year, vet minimum, deal is any different, as it pertains to KP's development or the Steelers' general QB development, as signing MR or Tannehill. If KP doesn't beat out either of those two QB's the Steelers would be in the same situation- unless you believe MR is long -term QB solution. If he does beat out Wilson (which I hope he does with both playing well) then we are in the exact same situation. Check that. We are in a better situation because Wilson is on a one-year contract.

step 1 ...forget about Kenny Pickett , its done , its over ....

    step 2.... embrace change
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. 4 teams in 5 years and traded twice in one off season

This is it exactly. My main problem is not that Russell Wilson will be playing. It's that because of him, Kenny Pickett won't.

His previous Pro Bowls are irrelevant. The question is how good will he play this year. Dan Marino went to a lot of Pro Bowls too, but it doesn't mean the Steelers should sign him for 2024.

The difference is that with Wilson, a lot of us suspect that there won't really be a competition and that he will be handed the job like Trubisky was two years ago. I don't think Kenny will have an actual opportunity to beat him out.

There is no difference. It’s the exact same situation he was in when they signed Trubisky. What would make you think he would have the opportunity to compete?

Kenny absolutely WILL compete against Russ for the starting QB job. KENNY WILL NOT WIN THE JOB. Russ is the better QB. Hopefully Kenny learns and gets better. I think we will still draft a QB. Don’t have to but probably will. Rookie may beat Kenny and Kenny end up backing him up in the future. Just how it is.

IMO the big difference is they drafted KP after they signed MT. They thought KP was future . Now they signed a veteran on down side of his career after drafting a guy in round one who they’ve watched for 2 years. Pretty telling the way I look at it. Then again I don’t know what front office thinking. KP could be traded tomorrow for a 4th rounder for all I know. Im rooting for KP but you can’t put all eggs in one basket.

Everyone loves a plan until it doesn't work. IF Wilson plays well...maybe. The Two QB's who won a combined 10 games in '23 are benched/out, and we're hinging everything on another Trubisky experiement.

I think it all depends on where the Steelers finish in 2024. Regardless of how Wilson does. Don't forget Mike Tomlin is entering the last year of his contract and assuming he doesn't get an extension, this is his one last shot to turn this around. Tomlin SEVERELY bungled the QB situation and Wilson is a desperate gasp to save him. We're banking on Wilson regaining some semblance of his old form. The Mediocrity he showed in Denver isn't going to cut it. Week 18 scoreboard watching isn't going to cut it this time.

If Wilson plays well but the team doesn't move anywhere (9-8/10-7 Wildcard Loss again) then that means Tomlin is likely out the door. The New guy is entering 2025 with Wilson on a expired deal, and a first round QB whose been thrown in the trash bin by the organization, An older defense, and won't be picking high enough in '25 and '26 for a top Quarterback. We keep slapping bandaids on the issue and it hasn't gotten us anywhere.

'24 is boom or bust for this team. If it busts, it needs a blow up and rebuild for real.

Tomlin is getting an extension, unless he turns it down.

I accept that if ends up being the case. As long as you accept that there will be no Kenny Pickett to blame anymore.

I hope that plan works out.

Now that we're here, we should all be giving it a chance.

Even if I disagreed with the move initially, everyone should be hoping for success. I like the aggressive moves they are making to supplement the move to get Russell Wilson.

If you are going to go for it, then go for it. It appears that's what they're doing. I'm in from the standpoint that I want this to work.

I am already excited about who they can bring in and I am ready to see where this goes.

I think that remains to been seen. If Tannehill had been signed the talk would be that he was going to start over KP because of his past relationship with Smith. If MR had been signed he would have been the fan favorite for many. The Steelers logically would rather have KP succeed. He is cheaper after this season and they drafted him to be the next in line. In any case, I think it's likely KP gets his chance even if Wilson does beat him out. Very few QB's stay healthy for 17 games. Of course same thing applies if KP starts the season.

Actually, he may win it. He just won't be given it even if he does.

Highlights are what they are, but I sure don't see how RW has become slow in his mobility as many are saying. I mean he makes Ben look like a great, great grandfather and he still throws a very nice deep ball. Hope he stays healthy, could be an exciting season.

Having watched several games of the Broncos last year, I'd agree. People hear stuff on the radio or read it in a blog and take their word for it. I like to see for myself.

This might deserve its own thread but I’ll throw it out there anyway. Assuming the Steelers get their center and shore up the defensive backfield and Wilson plays well, I’ll give them 10-7 to 11-6 and a wildcard with a good chance to advance. I would’ve gone higher but they’ll have a tougher schedule this year. I’m going to be optimistic and think Wilson has one more good year left and has a kind of resurgence. The competition (Burrow, LJ) will be stiff however.

It seems to me that in the past the steelers have played better when the schedule was tougher. Maybe my brain is fogged but that is what i remember.

Yeah with Ben, that’s what I remember too. Its possible they could find an extra gear, maybe also as this could be Tomlin’s last year that could be motivation as well?

I'm rather salty about the move, and nowhere near excited about it, but I have to begrudgingly hope for its success too (though there is also that annoying part of me who wishes to be right). This season is boom or likely blow it up. Let's see what they can do.

It’s always more satisfying to win with a QB the Steelers drafted (Terry, Ben, I hoped KP) rather than a vet they bring in at the end of their career. But I guess it’s better than losing.
