Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. 4 teams in 5 years and traded twice in one off season
Exactamundo.....
Ben adjusted his game to stay in the pocket and get the ball out quickly. Russ won't do it.....and he's short and losing more athleticism every day.
In 2 years he'll be where Ben was when everyone wanted him tossed out the door. I just don't see this as a long-term solution to anything.
Poor Kenny. Maybe he should’ve thrown more than 6 TD passes in 12 starts. In his supposed greatest game he still had zero touchdowns.
Who said Canada wasn’t a terrible coach? Hackett was a terrible Head Coach. The difference between the two examples is that Wilson has 10 years of excellent play and Pickett has zero.
Like it or not, Russell Wilson is the quarterback of the Steelers. You can want him to succeed or want him to fail. Makes no difference to me.
So, why can't that happen? And, even if as most here think Wilson starts, maybe KP comes off the bench if Wilson gets hurt and plays well. The reaction on this board to this signing is so finite. The experience of the Packers and Love should be a lesson that situations are unpredictable year to year even month to month.
It is hard to find a franchise QB. We may not find one for another 10 years. Most teams don't. But this signing doesn't necessarily end Kenny's career in Pittsburgh or put the Steelers back years in finding a franchise QB. How can signing a QB at vet minimum for one year put the team back multiple years at finding a franchise QB? Nothing is stopping the Steelers from drafting a rookie QB this year or next year.
Over reaction much?
I would like to add why is this signing any different than signing Tannehill or resigning MR? I'm a KP fan. I want to see him as the future Steelers QB. But the reaction to the Wilson signing is just head scratching.
BTW 66 QB's started a game last year in the NFL. So, who wins the competition to start next year won't likely be the end of the story anyways.

One thing for sure. If Wilson is the starter, the Denver game should be interesting. Ever been a game where a QB is having 95+% of his salary paid by the opposing team?
I have already stated that I want Rusell Wilson to succeed. I will never root for any Steelers quarterback to fail. We have far too many of those people here already.
I won't refuse to leave room to see positives in situations with all quarterbacks. If you can't, that's on you.
You say you don't care, but you've been snippy to everyone that doesn't walk lock-step with you on the quarterback issue. You have also been making smart ass comments to mock everyone that doesn't agree with you seemingly every other post, so don't get butt hurt over a sarcastic response to a statement by you when you have been shooting down the exact same argument from everyone else about a quarterback you don't believe in. If Russell Wilson is such a great quarterback, he should have been able to overcome some bad coaching. Wilson is certainly more experienced to handle that situation than Kenny Pickett ever was as a 9-time Pro Bowl player...is he not? It's how the quarterback does within the system and the open receivers they miss...right?. At least that's what I have heard over and over again from some of you here. Suddenly, a 9-time Pro Bowl player is helpless with a bad coach because it fits your agenda. If you don't want to hear it, then don't use the same argument to support your guy when evidence shows his play sucked after saying a second-year player is supposed to be able to overcome the same situation. It doesn't make any sense and you know it.
If Rusell Wilson starts and balls out next season and they make a run in the playoffs or win a super bowl, I'll be as happy as any other Steelers fan. My opinion of bringing him in was just that....an opinion. Now that he's in the building, all I want is for the best possible outcome for the team.
Haha. Dude, you’re the one taking everything personal. I’m not butt hurt. But I’m glad you got all that off your chest. I appreciate all of you guys on here (except tom44). So if I come across snippy, excuse me. I’m just excited about some of the moves this offseason. You guys obviously aren’t. I’ll refrain from responding to all the criticism of signing Wilson and just wait to see what happens on the field.
If you think about it, since the end of last season Tomlin has, in one way or another, thrown under the bus all three of the QB's who were on the roster. He doesn't have a bleeping clue about how to develop a quarterback. His whole reputation as a "great coach" is based on his being lucky enough to have inherited a pretty good team with an already established young franchise QB. If he had started out with a team that had any kind of a QB problem and needed to develop a new one, he would have been fired after three seasons and would now be at best a mediocre DC somewhere or completely out of the league.
Think about it. If you're a top QB prospect and you see what happened to Pickett, would you really want to be developed by the Steelers?
.. EXACTLY
I am sure they believe in KP. They picked him for a reason. However, they will create a fierce preseason being pushed by a all-pro vet for 1 year. Likely starter, fire under KP ass. KP will have all opportunities possible to show how good he can be, and/or learn, at the same time Russel is a top notch complement, or starter. We also know KP has a tendency to miss games so I truly believe they will make this more about last push for future, while still making it to the playoffs
According to reports all talks with both Russel and KP went down very well.

I don't have time to look up the numbers today, but I've really got one tangible question that no one can answer until the games start:
Arthur Smith has his QBs throw over the middle. A lot. Russell Wilson doesn't do that. Even in his Seattle prime.
So how's that gonna work? Should be interesting. One of them.is going to have to change their spots.
So 109 or 3 pages of posts in so far all I can tell about the RW signing is it is:
DesertSteel/Dwinsgames vs everyone else.
At this point let's hope RW has one more 2014 season in him.
Is it true that Russ completed more passes behind the LOS than anyone in the league? We know Kenny has his fair share of those.
How many of Russ screens were successful or 5 yards or more? I wonder what Arthur Smiths track record of screens was

I really think Wilson will play great in Smith’s play action offense. But I will be happy as long as someone is playing great. Whether that be Wilson, Pickett or some 6th rounder. I just want to see professional quarterback play. Otherwise, I’m not against anyone’s position. I just get a little adamant in my own position sometimes.
Well at least it’s for the vet minimum. Given the salary, I hope they don’t just hand the job to him. Somehow I think they will.
What was stupid was hiring and keeping Canada. No single human being exists or has existed or will ever exist that would have been able to look good under that guy. KP may or may not be good who truly knows right now (probably not good is what i lean towards). But even Tom Brady and Mahommes would have looked terrible under Canada. Predictable high school level offense. Refusal to work directly with his starting QB's the list goes on and on. There is a reason the guy has never held a position longer than 2 years until he came to Pittsburgh.
The thing is, many of us aren't arguing about Russell Wilson or Kenny Pickett as just quarterbacks. This isn't about who is better now. Russell Wilson is the more accomplished and better player right now. Wilson may come in and play great and lead this team to a Super Bowl. He may also be standing on the edge of the performance cliff, and be a complete disaster this season.
Pickett is the young guy that hasn't gotten to show his best self because of the situation he was in. We hope Kenny improves and blossoms as a quarterback in this offense.
But this isn't strictly about the quarterbacks per se. This is about team building. The real problem here is that I don't think that what they are doing is putting together a long-term plan for success. I take that back. It's not that it can't work out, it's just that the odds of Wilson killing it this year and then signing a big contract with a 5-year window with a high level of play from him seems unlikely. It would also mean that Pickett continues to develop and in limited duty looks fantastic and will either walk into the starting job, or he is valuable and can be traded so the team can get great players or draft capital for him.
That's what this is really about for me. How the team is building here and what the future may be for this team if it doesn't work out. This isn't how I would do it, but that doesn't mean I'm right.
If Mitch Trubisky doesn't see the field at all this past season, the team probably wins at least 12 games. They were 7-4 with Pickett until just before halftime in a tie game, with the ball at the 1 yard line about to take to the lead....when he was injured. Enter Mitch Trubisky.....we know how bad that went. Rudolph came in and played very well and they ran the table.
If Pickett doesn't get hurt, or if Mike Tomlin knew anything about his quarterbacks and put Rudolph in when Pickett got hurt, this team probably wins at least 12 games. So let's not act like Russell Wilson is here to save the sinking ship and he should be just fine with everyone here if he leads the team to 10-11 wins this upcoming season. They already had a situation with the quarterbacks they had last season to win at least that many games. That is the bar. So Russ needs to get a good amount of wins and make a run in the playoffs for this to even be just above break even. The team already has more talent on it than at any time last season with the free agents they have signed and a full draft upcoming, so there is no reason to not have a very strong season.
I hope that Russell Wilson plays great if he starts. I fully expect him to start, and I am hoping for great things. We will see what happens.
