    Steelers Ideal Free Agent Haul??

Something like this would be really nice…draft JPJ in the first round and work on DL/LB in the second and beyond. Add a WR late as well and they’d be on their way.

I’m sure they’d still need to dump some more salary like ARob, Kazee, etc.

Highly unlikely…but something to dream about…lol

That’s a lot of wideouts for an offense that’s never supported more than 1 maybe 2 guys.

Steelers have Pickens, DJ, and Friermuth already.

I suspect it will be really hard to convince a WR to come and be 3rd or 4th option in a passing game that the OC prefers not to use and a totally unattractive QB situation.

But every time I think I understand FA motives, the NFL proves me wrong.

I don’t know…Boyd has said he wants to play in Pittsburgh and he’d be a nice replacement for when DJs contract is up.

I’m too lazy to look it up. But I thought I read that the #3 and #4 options in Smith’s offense is basically non existent. Like sub 50 targets.

So if Boyd wants to play here for his LAST NFL contract, who am I to say no?

I believe you are correct. TE is also non-existent as well from what some articles said but the breakdowns said different.

I’d actually cut a few of those names off that list and throw some money at Queen to sure up the LB.

I would love to have Tyler Boyd in Pittsburgh.

My observation is that free agents go to whichever team pays them the most regardless of the situation.

If they want to pay the crappy situation tax and pay Boyd a gazillion dollars to block and not catch passes; you’re correct they can certainly give it a go.

Based on the summaries from people who claim to have watched Smith’s offense for years, he plays multiple RBs and TEs with 1 or 2 WRs in condensed formations. He then calls like 2 dozen passes with most going to a WR and the rest going to backs. And I think sometimes the TE.

Signing two pricey FA WRs doesn’t seem to make sense for the team or the player.

If anything they need more TEs.

I’m pretty sure that we don’t know what the 2024 version of Smith’s offense is going to look like.

Technically, you are correct. And that’s the best kind of correct!

But I find it hard to swallow that they hired Smith really quickly on the premise that he’s going to put in something different than what’s already out there.

I strongly suspect he got hired in the hopes that he makes KP Ryan Tannehill 2.0.

    And that’s not a 3 or 4 WR offense.

Without looking it up, who was the second WR in Tennessee after AJ Brown? The third?

Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. 4 teams in 5 years and traded twice in one off season

It was Corey Davis. Not a great WR combo…so maybe that’s part? The WR corp in Atlanta…not that great either…maybe worse. Quite possible that the receivers he had couldn’t so things he needed to be done. So this Steelers Wr room s much better than anything he’s had in either place.

    Ahh. That’s right!

You guys filled in the blank correctly I believe. I also think they tried to develop a smaller speedster guy late in the Titans run. Can’t remember his name.

Perhaps Smith will put more WRs on the field.

But he seems to not want to play 3 WRs as the default grouping. Which will be something of a change for the Steelers. Perhaps one they were kind of leaning towards anyways with the drafting of Washington and Heyward.

But the question is: Did he not do that because he didn’t have the personnel or that he just doesn’t do it? When you have Derrick Henry, some things get put on the back burner.

The Titans TE had 8 TD catches in 2020. PF has had a total of 4 the past 2 years.

I don’t think Trent Brown signs for less than 10 million a year. But I would still be interested. Kenny Moore would be a nice pickup. Same with Sean Bunting or Isaiah Oliver. But don’t forget Cory Trice who was having a phenomenal camp before getting injured. I think we could use an upgrade at the nickel spot. I think we are good at WR. Restructure A-Rob and draft a guy on day 3.
