He could have just said "We just finished a highly emotional playoff game. I'm not going to comment on that at this time."

His reaction made it seem like he really is going to go.

In walking off, he drew 10x more attention to the subject. Emotions aren't the best guide to get the result we want.

As classic as his USC coaching rumor response.

Mike Tomlin's Post-Game Response to a Question about his Contract

It’s a dumb question following a playoff loss. Deserved a walkout.

Exactly. Tomlin gave the appropriate response. Postgame conference is for game related questions, not unrelated decisions that may be made days, weeks or even months into the future.

Exactly. If I had thousands of people rumoring and speculating on my future and then someone asks me a question rooted in those rumors, I'd probably have the same reaction.

Tim Benz: Mike Tomlin's abrupt press conference exit felt calculated. So what's he calculating?

Benz criticizes Tomlin and others for fueling rumors, shilling, and carrying water for Tomlin's cash grab....and then basically does all of that in three paragraphs.

Is there anyone paid to write about Pittsburgh sports in Pittsburgh that does anything but mail it in and generate click-bait?

Goodness....Bouchette was better than this. I know Kaboly has taken his unique "brand" elsewhere. But these guys are barely trying.

A better exit would have been Tomlin blowing kisses to the reporters and then walk out lol

Just a question. Out of 32 coaches how many do you think would walk out? He knew it was coming. Just blow it off to a later date and move on instead of fueling the fire. Jmho.

Just my opinion. It doesn't matter how many other coaches would walk out. There are guidelines given to the media before these pressers begin. I would bet they were told not to ask about his contract and to keep it about the playoff game only. I don't know that but that is what I think. Coach didn't want to be there in the first place and when she asked her question, he just ended it. Good for him.

No, it doesn't matter how many would. But it's relevant to what he did.

Mike Tomlin’s Coaching Requires Context When Put Under Questioning

Before criticizing him for walking out on a postgame press conference, consider his Pittsburgh career as the most successful Black coach in NFL history.

I want to know if he's left-handed or right-handed, because it's important to know if he's the most successful left-handed coach in NFL history.

Doesn't the NFL require coaches to hold post-game press conferences? If so, just ask him about his contract on the first question.

I don't buy it. The rumors were that Tomlin himself was thinking of walking away, so the question didn't necessarily have anything to do with whether he should be fired or whether his performance wasn't good, just whether he thought he'd be back. He certainly could have answered that.
