No thank for Reich....He has been fired as OC in the past when he was with the chargers....

Gotta start looking at candidates and what’s available out there but it HAS TO BE outside of the organization…

Yeah. It can’t be Sullivan and Faulkner. It just can’t.

Faulkner looks clever enough that I could get behind him being retained and having a role but not the boss.

    What about Ken Dorsey?

I know the shine is off him from being fired in Buffalo, but he helped mold Allen.

Some of KP’s issues are the same chaotic tendencies.

Ray Fittipaldo's Steelers chat transcript: 01.16.24

    Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Jay: Hello Ray, thank you for the season. How do we attract the top OC to come to Pittsburgh? HC wants defensive, ball control philosophy offense, the QBs are mediocre, WRs are borderline divas. Assistant coaches come here to get blamed and never heard again.

Ray Fittipaldo: Give the new OC the keys to the offense.

Very unlikely to happen even if he is fired by Dallas but Roethlisberger wants Mike McCarthy as OC!

    Re: Steelers OC in 2024

So I was thinking about this. And there are 8 head coaching vacancies right now in the NFL. To me, that means that all the "big name" OC's that might be on the market will likely get a chance at the big chair and not have to settle into a coordinator role. So like Slowik or Johnson or whatever current hotshot offensive guy someone could think of.

And then after you skim those guys off; 8 staffs have to built out. So Slowik and Johnson are going to take some of their guys with them to make their staffs. Other coaches will pluck guys from "buzzy" offensive systems across the league. Then, those staffs that got pillage will have to restock.

My idea is that the Steelers either better hire right away - not something that sounds like them. Or they are going to end up settling on a name we aren't going to come up with.

I really think it will be another Haley situation. A veteran coach that has a tarnished image/reputation. Gets hired and if he can develop KP and build a good offense....image gets rehabbed. Just have to avoid Tequila Cowboy...

    I absolutely would.

Mike McCarthy is the biggest fraud in the entire NFL.

Dude has been known to run out of plays during games and just leave his QBs to figure it out.
He never responds in game to changes by the defense. He has one or two ideas going into the game and will just ram into the brick wall over and over again.
Tales of how lax he was in preparation and details started coming out at the end of his Green Bay tenure and it was everything people imagine Tomlin's staff to be...but actually "documented" (I mean no names....but it was as damning as it gets for NFL reporting).
Finally, he lied about what he did with his year off and then laughed about it.

Mike McCarthy is a fraud that is coasting on the amazing good luck he had working with great players and smooth functioning system in Green Bay.

Of course, if they drag it out they might conclude, "Hey, the two guys we have are better than what's left" and there we go again!

8 candidates for the Steelers’ offensive coordinator vacancy

Any of these eight coaches would be great hires for Pittsburgh

Kubiak would be my number one target in that list and Van Pelt had a nice run offense in Cleveland that would do Najee some good in a Nick Chubb role.

The one wrinkle in Steelers search for next offensive coordinator

    Allison Koehler
    January 16, 2024

Should the Pittsburgh Steelers go outside their organization for an offensive coordinator for the first time in a dozen years (Todd Haley, 2012), their options could be limited.

It doesn’t look like it now, but Mike Tomlin and the Steelers are beholden to Kenny Pickett as QB1 in 2024. They invested a first-round draft pick on him, and we all know how rare it is for Tomlin to walk back a decision like that, no matter what the consequences.

The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly feels Pickett as the cemented starter could weed out some quality candidates.

First paragraph she says how rare it is for Tomlin to walk back a decision like selecting Pickett in the first round. I would say extremely rare since MT has had Ben the entire time before drafting Pickett. Walking back a 1st round QB has NEVER happened. Neither has drafting one.

I just can't read the rest of it. I just can't.

    Re: Steelers OC in 2024

The other really funny thing is that every article on almost every Steelers focused site makes some version of the team needs to go outside the organization for the next OC to get a fresh perspective and not lean on existing ties, etc. Sounds like a great plan and a good set of hiring priorities.

Then the article concludes with some name like Van Pelt or some other name that has "connections to western PA" or "ties to the organization". These people writing this stuff can't even keep their ideas straight for five paragraphs.
