Watching highlights, on Allen’s run, he fakes like he is going to slide and 2 of the 3 Steelers that are there pull up, and Allen continues his run to the EZ. NFL needs to stop that crap, you can’t have a rule that QBs can exploit because you are not aloud to touch them. That needs to be a penalty on the QB because the defense would get penalized for hitting the QB if he did slide.

I also said “at least we made it interesting” when we cut it to 7. Kinda sad when that is seen as a good thing lately.. not winning, not losing in a laugher is now the goal.

Sorry but its time for some new voices in the locker room.

Agree 100%. I also hate that offensive players can stiff arm defensive players in the face mask. If the defense can't touch your face mask then it should go both ways.

However, he's proved over the last few weeks that he could be an outstanding back up QB, and one I'd really want to keep on my team. His arm strength has dramatically improved, and he is very decisive with the ball.

His problem is that he's a poor man's John Kitna. He's a game manager that cannot put the team on his back and carry them. I really believe we saw his ceiling the first three games he played, and the last two games saw him come back down to his average. Again, as a backup, I'll take it.

I'm also not completely sold on Pickett, and I am not excited about going into next season with him as the number 1. However, I also think it is unfair to judge him by his work under Canada. The one full game he played not under Canada was a much better game.

Still, I have to wonder, if we can get some trade value for either Pickett or Rudolph (or both?), do we take it, bundle it with our number one and two, or one and three, and try to move up to get a QB if we can?
Great post. I agree that I want to see what Pickett can do with a real OC and a full camp of playing and (hopefully) perfecting the new offense. We all saw first hand what a competent backup QB can do with our offensive tools in a non-Canada offense the past few weeks with our receivers actually running routes that got them open. Under Canada our receivers were constantly NOT open but magically were after his firing.

    There is hope.

Should really be a simple as this "you're not a QB once you cross the line of scrimmage" no slide will save you. On this side of the line defense plays defense. Every QB can make their own choices just know your going to get hit

Every player can give themselves up in the same way, not just quarterbacks. Receivers do it all the time. They just mainly drop instead of slide. But the should be a penalty for fake sliding.

I know that exists, but why. Just play the game and you're getting tackled one way or another. It's less complicated. If the NFL really wanted to protect QBs why have intentional grounding? Save the queen let her throw the ball down if in danger

I'm surprised they still have IG. It'll be gone soon or it will only exist if done while in the grasp.

Yup. And then there was some instinct that betrayed some Steelers DBs. Allen is way downfield, and he kinda pumps the ball, and two DBs turn to "cover" WRs. I guess you can't totally rewire your brain?

Robinson is fine. But that’s only 3.
A “need” to me is a starter. They definitely could be short on depth but I think they can go in a different direction. If a stud ILB is available, you take him!!

I can agree with that. But I still think they "need" a starter. I realize that Roberts and a healthy Holcomb allow them to line up and play credible NFL defense. But....if you look at the consistently winning defenses across the league...they have "more" patrolling the middle.

I wouldn't pass up JPJ 2.0 to do it...but I would draft a dominant ILB over a center. I gamble I can get a center later in the draft. I dunno. Could be all wrong here.

You’re probably right…but watching Cole play…it was so bad. If I can get a dominant Center, I’m taking him to anchor that line for years. I guess I’d have to see how dominant the center vs the LB vs the CB were…

Yeah. Cole has totally disintegrated. I hope he is willing to stick around as a back-up and a mentor. But they need a new starting center.

And, you're right, it will be all about tiers of guys and how much they can impact....etc.

But I would list their needs (in no particular order) for draft and FA: Center, OT, DT/DE, ILB, OLB, DB (several of these I would like Wallace, Pierre, Kazee, and maybe Peterson replaced), and WR.

The surprising thing to me about Mason Cole was not falling off blocks, but the consistently bad snaps. Green was a turnstile but at least his snaps were better.

Pretty much the same needs I have:

    1. OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR

Everything else in no particular order: Center, Tackle, QB, ILB, CB, S. I think they are good on OLB with the three (Watt, Highsmith, Herbig) and can get an OLB later…but depth is needed there.

I really think if they got a stud Center and a real QB combined with an ILB with the current roster, they’d be a serious contender.
