    Mike Vrabel

Now that Vrabel is available, what are any of your thoughts on him as our HC (if for some reason MT is not here after this year). This is of course speculation.

I think Ten made a mistake letting him go as they are dealing with needing a rebuild honestly. I would take him for sure, I think his coaching style is exactly what we need and he has been successful. The big thing would be a fresh coaching staff for the most part which many hear think we need (including myself).

I would take him as a head coach and Bienemy as an OC and Flores as a DC. That would be good on paper…

He is likely the coach closest to Tomlin in approach and philosophy.

This for sure, would also settle for Lefty as OC.

Any way to get the Patriots stench off of Vrabel first?

He wasn’t cracking that starting line up of LBs in any form or fashion anyway…

Gildon, Holmes, Kirkland and Porter were the LBs when he left. He wasn’t better than Porter or Gildon at that time. I think Haggans was on the roster at that time as well.

It was that he was behind Carlos Emmons on the depth chart. Steelers had Gildon, Emmons, Vrabel and they drafted Porter in the 2nd round one year and then Haggans in the 5th the year after.

Tough situation in that if he made some better progress converting from DE, they likely would not have drafted Porter. Anyways, I like Vrabel, but I bet he goes to NE if they part with Belichek.

That would exactly be my thought as well. I don't see him not going there if Belichick does leave.

Correct. But when he left, those four were the starting linebackers.

Vrabel to NE is the logical place for him to land but probably not the best situation for a head coach. Los Angeles is probably the best situation at the moment.

Another defensive minded coach, seems like a Steeler tradition at least since 1969. I think they need to switch gears and find an up and coming OC for a change.

Yes, those were the 4 LB. Gildon and 2nd year Joey Porter at OLB. The year before it was Gildon and Carlos Emmons at OLB and I seemed to recall they didnt think that Emmons or Vrabel were impactful OLB's, so that is why the drafted Porter. Vrabel seemingly wasnt making the transition from DE in college to OLB in the NFL.

So Vrabel got drafted in '97 by the Steelers and went to the Patriots in '01, where he started 12 games that season and they won their first Super Bowl. Pretty good switch for him. Hindsight is easy to say they should have moved on from Gildon and went with Vrabel and Porter at OLB, but stuff happens.

I remember after one of the Patriots' Super Bowl wins Vrabel standing there at the podium with the trophy saying "This beats playing special teams in Pittsburgh." Vrabel can go take a flying leap.

I’m not remembering what his role was in the Pats defense, but career sack #’s say the Steelers were correct to let him go.

One season with double digit sacks. That’s just not enough.

As soon as even 1 former Cheats coach or player works out as a coach anywhere else but New Analgland I might consider it.

The natural fit for New England appears to be Vrabel but in actuality, the more natural and better fit would probably be Harbaugh. Gotta fill a cheaters shoes with another cheater…

his role was shooting the gap on any critical Steeler play because they cheated and knew our plays.
