I agree with him.
Says the guy who wasted Bettis' prime and pissed away 2 trips to the Super Bowl by sticking with Korkie under center for 5 years...
My thoughts exactly! Not that I disliked BC, but he was pretty inflexible. Never saw the need for a franchise QB. Right or wrong that was his philosophy. I might get things thrown at me, but, for the short time that Whis was the OC, I think he ran a balanced offense. I’m sure the Rooneys saw something, that he wasn’t great HC material, and he proved that once Warner left AZ. But I thought he had a good offensive mind.
No matter what anybody thinks of Bill Cowher, running more plays from under center makes perfect sense in this offense. It makes sense because of the style of offense they want to play, and the personnel they currently have on the team. When you add a young QB like Pickett into it and with the knowledge that Pickett has done well in play action...it makes perfect sense.
The team should get Pickett under center more. It would make the offense less predictable because they would run more stuff from the same offensive sets making it harder for the defense to read what is coming, and it would set up play action. It is one of the changes I recommended they do in the "Canada Fired!" thread.

I agree but don’t you need a good offensive line to do what he’s suggesting? I think we’ve been using shotgun because Ben preferred it, then we stuck with it maybe cause the protection got worse
The Steelers shortcomings in the running game are not because they are not trying to run. The problem has been that because the passing schemes under Canada were so inept, other teams could ignore the Steelers passing game and put everybody in the box to stop the run. Rather than using the running game to set up the pass, the Steelers right now are a team that needs to use the passing game to set up the run. Start passing early and force the other team to take guys out of the box to defend the pass. Once you've forced them to do that, then is the time to start pounding the running game. And when the other team has to start putting guys back in the box to help out with the run, then go back to the pass.
Yeah, and if you remember the first Bengals game this year, Sullifaulkner had the right mindframe. Throw it early and catch them off guard.
Same with Whis in the Colts game. On the first drive, Ben threw a long pass to Heath and they were off and running. Jumped out ahead early.
