Re: Schefter: Mike Tomlin Won’t Be Fired, But ‘Could Decide To Take Some Time Off

I was listening to an interesting conversation on The Fan last weekend in Pittsburgh. A caller said that he heard that Mike Tomlin's wife, who is a fashion designer, had expressed to Tomlin a desire to leave Pittsburgh for a city that has a larger black population so that she could sell more of her fashion designs. The cities that were mentioned as possibilities were Washington, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. The caller said that he had heard that Tomlin might be amenable to pleasing his wife on this since she had stuck with him so long in Pittsburgh. Then the host, Paul Alexander, said that he too had heard similar rumors to that effect.

I have no idea whether any of this is true, but it's interesting how this kind of aligns with Schefter's story.

I like it! Trade Tomlin to Washington for first rounder and Sam Howell. KP and Howell can battle it out to see who sucks more. Or take Drake Maye with pick and They can battle for backup.

If they suspect that he’s leaving, I’d seriously consider sending him to Washington for a couple first round picks or a few early round picks.

No team will gave up a top 10 pick for Tomlin or other elite HC....Late first round pick or early second round pick like Sean Payton...possible but not a top 10 pick

Not sure I like the prospect of Art II picking a new HC now that his father is no longer around as I'm fairly certain Dan was behind Noll's hiring and I know for a fact he was behind Cowher's and Tomlin's. All due respect to The Chief, but it was Dan who was the football mind of the family.

They could. Gruden got two first round picks if I remember correctly. If all it costs is a Top-10 pick, maybe they’d do it. Trade that pick for Tomlin or Belichick, trade your second pick for Fields and your pretty much done your draft…lol

But if Tomlin is as highly regarded around the league as people say he is, why wouldn't they?

Have you ever read the book "Ruanaidh", written by Art Rooney Jr.? It is filled with intimate anecdotes about the Steelers and the Rooney family, and is very different than any other sports book I have ever seen. It deals with the hiring of Noll and just about everything else pertaining to the Steelers from their founding to Art Rooney's death. I would strongly recommend it.

I have heard of it, but oddly enough, never read it. I will check it out. Thanks!

Ray Fittipaldo wrote today that it was floated by Tomlin's agent as a ploy to gain an advantage in the contract negotiation. Ray is not a hot take guy so that sounds reasonable.

Reminds me of when Chad Brown's wife decided you can't get good sushi in Pittsburgh and so insisted he go to the Seahawks.

Chad Brown's wife cost him a Hall of Fame enshrinement because of a lack of quality sushi in the Pittsburgh area.

    True story.

It sounds like a ridiculous reason for him to leave.

But marriage is funny like that.

As a native, the main reason I left Pittsburgh was lack of diversity and opportunities. When I go home I get homesick and think about returning. I grew up in the same school system Ben’s kids are in at the moment. Great place to raise kids.. but its not anywhere as diverse as Charlotte, NC.
