TJ Watt: Placed In The Concussion Protocol

Pittsburgh Steelers pass-rusher T.J. Watt is in the concussion protocol.

Watt reported the symptoms Friday morning following the Steelers' 21-18 loss to the Patriots and was subsequently placed in the protocol, per Steelers team spokesperson Burt Lauten. To return to play, Watt must be cleared by an independent neurologist. The Steelers' next game is Saturday at the Indianapolis Colts.

Watt was injured on the first play of the Thursday night game when running back Ezekiel Elliott's knee hit Watt in the face at the end of a run.

Watt came off the field for several snaps, but later took the field later in the first quarter with a tinted visor. He finished the game playing 90% of defensive snaps.

The Steelers' other starting pass-rusher, Alex Highsmith, is also dealing with an injury. He exited the loss to the Patriots in the second quarter with a neck injury.

I might just not understand head injuries but I’ve got a hard time understanding how someone is sensitive to light after a hit to the head and the “independent “ brain doctor is like “yup. He’s fine”.

That shot he took to the jaw was violent. That was a real hard shot. I saw them checking his jaw and inside his mouth. I was worried he broke his jaw. I think Watt wasn't sure either, and you could see he was in real pain and discomfort.

I was surprised when he came back in the game because it seemed like there was a very good chance he got a concussion.

He's a tough SOB. I hope he recovers very soon.

thats gonna cost them ... allowing a player to play essentially a full game concussed will cost big $$ and could end up as a loss of draft pick ..... its serious stuff these days they can take a pick away for damn near anything
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar

Yeah…it looked like he had a broken jaw or something at first and when they put the shaded visor on it was suspicious but I feel like he’s work a shaded visor either in the past or during warmups so figured it was to protect his face or something…

Isn't that on the NFLs independent neurologist?

Well there has been "sort of" precedent set for this sort of thing with the fiasco that was Tua Tagovailoa. What happened to the Dolphins? I believe that "independent doctor" was "fired" but what about the team?

I'm not sure there will be anything that comes down on the team if the neurologist said he was fine to return to the game.

Here's the ongoing problem...the "independent neurologist" is hired by the NFL. So are they really "independent" or would they (NFL) rather have TJ Watt on the field in what is already a shitty contest with one of the NFL's biggest stars on the field? Without TJ, that game has the potential to be much less entertaining than it already was and decrease ratings. So of course, TJ was fine to go back in the game. Same thing happened with Tua...
