I'll grant that I'm sounding far too harsh on Roberts. I don't have a bad word to really say about his play. It was an attempt to point out that the idea that any "mistake" or "negative" outcome on the field is somehow on "coaching" just has never made sense to me.

Like I just watched the Titans-Colts highlights and they had a guy run the punter over and it got called fumble and Boykin got a flag for far less. That isn't on Smith, Tomlin, or Boykin. It is just bad breaks.

No argument. But that isn't "coaching". That is the fact that Mason Cole is not a starting caliber NFL center. He just isn't. He only seems that way in Pittsburgh because the other option was Kendrick Green and JC Hassenhauer.

For the most part I agree with you on the coaching aspect. However, if the coaches know that Roberts can’t cover McBride, they need to figure out a way not to put him into that position often. I think that portion falls in coaching. sure you may expose yourself in a different area but that’s part of the game both ways. Not everyone player in the NFL can do what Ryan Shazier could. There are coaches on the other sideline finding mismatches, sometimes these coaches seem lazy…like using Robert Spillane to cover Deandre Hopkins…that’s NEVER gojng to work.

I can agree with that. But that is not typically what gets discussed on Steelers flavored message boards.

And often....we don't notice the LB in coverage on a WR because the pass rush gets home and swallows up the QB. I also see LBers on WRs all over the NFL each and every week. But it always always always gets talked about like some special Steelers centered problem/issue.

But it's not just the OL. The running backs, and in particular Warren just keeps missing his assignments. He's going to get someone killed back there. He has been really, really bad.

People bitch about Pickett not seeing the field, but the blockers are in place for him to go through progressions but he is getting a free runner because of a blown assignment. He is supposed to have more time to throw, but everyone yells Kenny sucks!
