Hello everyone,
Here we go again with another porous passing game. Kenny definitely has to play better. He appears to have the yips on some of his throws with accuracy issues. I also don’t like the spin move he does to escape the pocket. He moves back way too deep out of the spin and it makes him blind to where the pressure is, running straight into sacks.
We are now seeing miscommunication with the Receivers. The blame can’t go totally on him though. The times that he is on target DJ is having several drops. The scheme is also not helping Kenny either. Last year, Kenny came in and played with fire and energy. I’m not seeing that now. I truly feel that the scheme has zapped his fire. When you are told that you are not allowed to use the entire field, it adds an extreme amount of pressure.
All throws go to the sideline. Either an out route, back shoulder fade or passes in the flat. That is all that is designed for him to throw. Not only that, every defense we play knows that is coming. Defenses are playing those routes, and they are hardly open. When you know these are the only concepts that you are getting as a QB, it can cause him to get antsy when he FINALLy sees it open and results in an inaccurate pass.
The pressure is to be extremely accurate against defenses that are covering the only 3 route concepts we run. It’s unfair to the QB to constantly have to make plays with concepts that every defense knows is coming. Tomlin and Canada are refusing to let him use the whole field, primarily the middle. There are no slants, seam routes, or crossers. That is unacceptable when you have players like Pickens, DJ, Friermuth and Austin.
Friermuth had 1 catch yesterday. Austin is never in the gameplan. When he is, he only gets go routes and Jet sweeps. It’s just awful having so many weapons but there are only 3 route concepts for all of them that go towards the sidelines. Kenny does have to be more consistent with making the throws that are there. I do believe though that he gets so excited that something FINALLY comes open, that he rushes the throw. He knows that he doesn’t have many chances to make a play with the same route concepts, so he rushes throws at times.
Tomlin says he doesn’t live in his fears, but he does if he doesn’t allow his QB to use the whole field. That would make ANY QB play tight. Give the kid the whole field like every other QB in the league is aloud to utilize. Let him get his blood pumping. It’s clear to see that the scheme they are running for him now has caused him to lose his fire.
