    Heroes/Goats vs Bengals

First game without Matt Canada and the offense cracks 400 yards. In 58 games.

First game in 2023 where the Steelers outgained an opponent.

No individual heroes. Just a thumbs up for the Steelers.

Heroes: The Steelers for firing Matt Canada.

Goats: The Steelers for holding onto Matt Canada for so long.

Heroes - TJ, Pat, Najee, Kenny without Canada, Sullifaulkner, Thompson with a crucial pick

Goats - DJ, refs missing the TD call, the football for the unlucky bounces

    Heroes/Goats vs Bengals

Game Balls - Pickett, Freiermuth, Watt & Pass Rush, Run game, JPJ, Sullivan, Faulkner, Tomlin.

Goats - Whoever decided to hire Matt Canada and keep him for whatever amount of time that pain was, DJ…he’s got to get his act together.

    Re: Heroes/Goats vs Bengals

Pickett got robbed of a TD by the refs (and Tomlin not challenging)

But I liked the throws to Muth (finally!) and some downfield attack.

Defense didn’t have a huge challenge today but Watt and company did their job.

Nice all around effort. Gives me hope that this kind of production will eventually lead to more points.

So should the TD to DJ have been ruled good? He definitely had enough feet down, but when he fell I wonder if he needed to survive the ground and failed there.

Hopefully DJ was humbled a bit and will no longer need Minkah to kick his ass when he mouths off.

But can’t even really call him a goat since that was really a TD. Sure it’s best not to let it come out after three steps and going to the ground, but had it been called correctly, or if Tomlin would have challenged, no one would have given it a second thought.

I like DJ more than most people around here and I don’t believe he’s really a diva. He doesn’t usually complain, and I believe helped Pickens when he was getting upset. Sure he makes some mistakes going backwards when trying to extend plays, but he’s the consistent route Kenny really needs on this offense. Also he made a really nice 3rd down catch on a low ball where he bent down, caught it in stride, and kept going.

If this offense is going to continue to be efficient I think DJ will be a big part of that.

He had 3 steps and the ball. Steratore said it was a TD. Tomlin should have challenged

According to Sterritore, once he had possession and the 3rd foot down, it is a dead ball and therefore a TD. Refs got it wrong and MT should have challenged.

They really need to have a booth guy that makes challenge decisions for MT.

Hero: Matt Canada for not being there. But honestly, I think this, for the most part, was a team effort.

    Goat: Dionte Johnson.

Gene Steratore said it should have been a TD because the third step overrules the possession to the ground non-sense.

Yeah, but most of the Steelers offense didn’t realize it was a live ball. Not just DJ.

He obviously should have been more aware, but he was already turned away when the Bengal picked it up and started running. I’m just saying I don’t think it was a self preservation thing or a bad attitude. He just didn’t realize what was happening, and wasn’t even looking when it became clear to everyone that the refs were allowing the play to continue.

Najee quietly had a nice day. 99 yards, 6.6 average with a long of 22.

I think he’s starting to use his size and strength more. He’s tough to bring down when he tries to g through people.

Everybody gets a gameball. Team win.

That should be a TD all day every day and twice on Sunday. It was an error by the Steelers to not challenge it.

    - - - Updated - - -

Heroes: Entire Offense for coming together to play better than ever on a short and disjoined week.

Goats: MojoUW for WILDLY underestimating the capabilities and capacities of the remaining Steelers offensive coaching staff to get a viable offense up and running on short notice.

    good post ...

I would however single out Muth as a hero , the guy caught everything in his zipcode thrown his way and exploited the middle of the field early forcing the Bengals to defend every blade of grass ( within 30 yards of the LOS) cause thats the limit of this offense to date with Canada it was like 12 yards tho so i'll take the improvement as something to build on
Kenny Pickett is who I though he was .. Eagles didn't value him either , now he is a Stain at the Mistake by the Lake 3 teams in 4 years more of a shooting star than a superstar

Goats: No one. DJ is maddening. Makes boneheaded plays then makes that low fingertip catch to keep the drive alive in the 4th quarter.

Tomlin needs better advisors on his challenges. Do those guys in the booth even know the rules??

I watch that offense and think they should have 30 points. I'll take it. Good offense ron able to finish against my s really bad team . Against good teams I just don't see this happening in a good way

Got to start somewhere, remember these 2 coaches have been involved at this level for 4 days here.

    Gameballs
Entire offense. A lot of upheaval this week but they came in and more than doubled their production on the field. It was against a bad defense but they wouldn't have done that that well last week against this same defense. But we need to see continued improvement. I'll accept it is limited due to working within the larger Canada system still, but still need improvement.

Whoever finally pulled the trigger on Canada. I mean, when I get to the point that I think a coach needs to go, you know it's bad.

    GOATS
The football gods for putting two tipped balls into the hands of Bungle receivers.

Whoever failed to alert Tomlin that the TD pass that was called incomplete should have been challenged (Or Tomlin if he doesn't have someone in that position).

I'll give DJ the benefit of the doubt. It looked like the play was over.

Need to add another Heroe - Broncos for beating (apparently as it is 24-12 with 5m left) the Browns and giving us a leg up to take the division possibly.

I’d like to add Najee to my balls list. I’m not a big fan of his but that may have been the most impressive 20-yard run I’ve seen in the past 10 years. It’s like he was reinvigorated by Canada’s firing.
